    Hi all

My 2011 Fat Boy was just serviced at 22K km all good.

900 km later rear bearing goes.

It went while parking, so I limped home in first gear.

I know HD do not use these bearings any more, but why should we pay for their mistake.

If you agree and have receipts for low milage bearing replacement please reply.

You would still be covered under Australia Consumer Affair laws, investigate further, why should you pay good money for a machine that breaks down after 24 - 36 months, from a faulty part....

I suspect some of these failures are caused by incorrect torque of the rear axle after tyre changes.

I can understand if a stock Harley bearing fails in a low km bike its not a good look !!! Especially with all the reports of this happening ..

For fuck sake ,,, we only have 2 wheels !!!! Could a large % of failed bearings be put down to DIY install ???,,, maybe !!! ,,

I've done approx 400,000 km on 5 Harleys , ( replaced bearings, (stock Harley) , after third or forth tyre change ) , and never had a bearing failure ,, am I lucky ?? ,, maybe !!

I can only speak on touring models,, 2009 seemed to be a bad year for the stock standard bearing, (non abs), 9276 , in about 2011, they replaced the 9276 with a 9276A . The abs bearing , 9252 , has not changed , and doesn't seem to be a problem..

I realize you can replace the standard bearing with a aftermarket bearing .. But from what I understand , (if you have abs), the abs bearing , 9252 , has to come from Harley. If anyone knows of a aftermarket abs bearing to replace the Harley abs bearing 9252, please post up..

I've heard of a few going at 30K-40K.... mostly softails. Latest was a mate in Melbourne with a Fat Boy Lo. If anyone uses high pressure wash then it's the stealers. My 2007 FXDB had the rear wheel bearings changes after 80K..

i have pulled rear bearings out of a few newer HD's 2007, 2008, 2009,, so it may go a lot further... and have found horrid cheap nasty collapsed bearings.. these are easily recognised as crap because A they are fucked.. and B they have no writing or any form of identification on them.. god quality replacement bearings are cheap. HD should be responsible for its crap but they know we wont stop buying so why should they give a fuck..
