High Beam Indicator Problem

    Hi Guys, I'm new here.

I have a 2007 Streetbob. I recently changed the headlight to an after-market product. The high and low beams work perfectly. But now my high beam indicator light glows faintly when I'm on low beam, and of course, comes on strong with the high beam. Can anyone help me with this problem? Why would it be glowing faintly on low beam?

    Thanks,

    The Woodcutter.

How crap was your wiring job? Presuming it's not light spillage from another glowing globe, it sounds like a tiny bit power is looking for a home and finding it in your beam indicator. I'd recheck all the joins and make sure everything is connected right.
    Though I'm no auto elec.

    Nice lookin bike Woody,

as bonkerz said, re-check the wiring connections, particularly the earth connection, it's possible that the low beam is earthing via the high beam circuit if the main earth is not good.

It may also be possible for that to happen if you have the high beam and earth connections arse about, high beam will work OK, but low will still need an earth and will get it via the high beam circuit.

Now if all that checks out OK, you'll have to start looking at the internal wiring/circuitry of the headlight.

Some of the after market headlights have a definite low beam and high beam circuit, (straight forward), and some the low beam stays on when high beam is turned on, check to find out how yours is supposed to work and that will help you chase the issue.

If it's the low beam stays on when switched to high beam type, that might be the problem. An internal diode that lets current flow from high to low, but not the other way from low to high, is leaking it will cause the indicator light to partially illuminate.

    Thanks Bonkerz and Rider,
The wiring was soldered and insulated pretty good.
I think you might be onto something there, Rider, with your comment about the low beam earthing through the high beam.... I'll go back to the shed and look at it again.
    Thanks guys.

I would check your earth contacts with the new headlight installation.

Thanks, HogBag...I'll look at that very closely.
