Gidday Chopa ... can I run something by ya ... I have a 08 Anniversary Softail Custom import ... build date was late 07 but is quite obviously a o8 Sale model with the Bronze and Black paint work and limited build number on the ignition / speedo / dash area ... + Anniversary logos on other area`s of the bike .

When it was registered here in Oz it came back as a 07 model on the Rego paper work ... when I rang Mains Road Dept and explained to them that the bikes were built before hand for the upcoming model run they informed me that they weren`t interested in that info and as far as they were concerned it was built in 07 so it is a 07 model on the paper work .

Now while that didn`t please me to much I figured that considering I am not going to be selling the pride and joy any time soon it still leaves a bad feeling that God forbid I have to sell one day it will be harder to sell as a 08 model considering the Mains Road Dept will only consider it a 07 model .

I suppose the question is does this happen normally with imports or have I just had a prick from the Mains Road Dept being a asshole and do I have any chance I having the bike recognised as a 08 model .

    Tim .

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but it happens with every bike (and car), import or not. There's the date of manufacture or production date (Main Roads, Vic roads etc etc record this) and then there's the model year, which tells you what model (so you can buy parts) it is.

Unfortunately we can't get a year for free. The build date is the build date regardless of the model year it was built for.
I always buy my (new) bikes in march or later to ensure it has the same manufacture and compliance year as it takes 2- 3 months (on average) to get here after being built.
Saves confusion if and when i go to sell it....

My 06/2006 is a 2007 model because it came with a 96 cube engine and a 6 speed box

The last 2006 was released on 05/2006 with a 88 cube engine and a  5 speed box
