Hi guys,
Recently bought the Mustang Cafe Solo Seat for my Iron 883. Arrived and I went to install it and came across a particular issue, it hole drilled into the pan of the seat does not let the HD guiding bolt sit within it so it does not fit nicely. This means the bracket that mounts the seat to my fender is at a very sharp angle and unfortunately as scratched my fender a tiny bit whilst I tried to install it. Now I'm scratching my head as Mustang have replied and said it is not designed to fit the guiding bolt and to ensure it is pushed all the way forward into the tongue, but I'm unsure then how it can fit properly given it is pushed as far forward as possible. The picture below should help illustrate the problem. Anyone got suggestions? At this stage I'll be returning the seat.
Cheers,
Woz
Do the models with full rear fairings have a different curve to them? That honestly doesn't look like it fits the 883/48 rear guard at all. I wouldn't expect that air gap under the back of the seat.
take it back
sure you havent put the back tab on upside down
Hey wozza... I'm and electical guy, but let me add some comment as I do most of the work on my bike....
What model/year is your bike?
What is the seat P/N?
Now looking at the picture, the seat leangth and then length of the tab look fine. It looks like if the seat was positioned any further forward that the tab might just not reach. The problem is with the shape of the seat. If the rear of the seat was sitting lower then I would suggest that the length would be ok. Seeing as the rear of the seat is sitting proud, are there any rubber spacers left on the rear guard from the existing seat? Are you able to determine if there is anything keeping the seat from sitting flush on the guard. Take the seat off and look carefully as you mount again to see if there is anywhere that it is catching. I know mine (Mustang Solo on 2007 Street Bob) binds on the guard slightly..
can you take a photo of underneath the seat at the tail end?
other things you could look at is:
a) take the seat off and see if there are any marks from points that appear to be where the seat is sitting incorrectly
b) take seat off and then carefully fit the rear of the seat to the rear fender retainer making sure the front lip does not damage the tank and then try and guess if 1) it extends beyond the mount point behind the tank, and 2) see if you can see where the issue is that causes it not too fit properly
All the best...
any update?
