Fuel Guage issue

Wondering if someone smarter than me out there could lend me a bit of advice.

Recently bought a night train and just changed the gas caps to the RSD Tech caps.

Non fuel led one in the dummy cap.

Before it had the god awful bulky harley ones with fuel gauge in them.

My speedo has a fuel gauge in it but after removing the original the guage one isnt working and reads low fuel light on as per picture.

I have removed dash and cant see anywhere to plug the original plug into under speedo for the fuel.

Does that mean they have somehow wired the speedo fuel guage into the loom for original guage and because i have it removed it has stopped working?

    Anyone have any answers here?

I have heard something like this before, and I think you are correct. Once you disconnected the Original gas cap. It stops others from working correctly. Maybe do a search as I think it was on this forum a few years ago

Yep you will have issue with removing the original fuel guage, had the same problem with my Fatboy Lo. When you remove the fuel guage you break the circut in the fuel system resulting in the low fuel guage light being on all the time.

You can get a resistor and solder it between the wires but knowing what size resistor to use is a problem. I did have a post a couple of years ago with the same issue.

In the end I cut the top of the original stock tank fuel pushed it back in the hole and pushed on the RSD cap problem was fixed. Now you can get a matching cap from RSD with a low fuel light which completes the fuel circut.

How are you liking that speedo, I had that same speedo/Tach setup also but I found that the sun reflected on the shiny surface really bad at certain times of the day, also if i left the bike in the sun there would be so much condensation on the inside of the glass which annoyed the hell out of me so I use to place my gloves over the speedo when bike was parked in the sun which stopped the condensation but now it has streak marks on the inside of the glass and that pissed me off. So now I have removed that speedo/tach and re-installed the stock speedo feels much better now. Do miss the fancy coloured lights but I can live without it.
