what is the best Redline gearbox oil to use, I see there is V-Twin Transmission oil with Shockproof, Super-Lightweight Shockproof, Lightweight Shockproof and Heavyweight Shockproof for my 2014 SG. I am currently using Amsoil but not totally happy with it as the box is still a bit clunky with it, but it is better than the syn 3 that was in there.

Steve i use heavy shockproof in mine, it will still not eliminate the clunks and bangs totally but is much better

just changed the gearbox oil to the V-Twin Transmission Oil with Shockproof and while I was at it I also changed the primary and used the V-Twin Primary Case Oil. These Redline products have definitely smoothed the clutch and gearbox operation, good stuff :)

well I am now starting to wonder about the redline oil. The gear changes have become clunky in the last few rides, I have a feeling it might be the primary oil. The shock proof in the gearbox seems to work for most who use it. The Redline primary is very thin, thinner than the mobil 1 engine oil that was previously in it. Can the primary also cause the clunky feel or is it coming from the gearbox,
    cheers Steve.

Hi Paul, I just put in the recommended 1 quart in both gearbox and primary. How thick/thin is the Lucas primary oil.

An incorrectly adjusted clutch will cause excess drag on the friction plates causing the g-box to be clunky from neutral to first and at low speeds. Can you push it in first with the clutch in?
Also how much primary oil did you put in?

I will check it tomorrow Paul and with the primary I put in a quart and it came up to just under the lip when on the stand. I haven't tried pushing it in first but it is clunky through most of the gears, not just first. It is worse since going to the Redline stuff, but initially it was good, got me fucked.

okay thanks Paul, I might have to get some more and measure it out. I did a check on the US forums and they all said 1 quart. I am going to leave the gearbox alone as I think its from the primary. I might even try a different brand, just have to see whats available.

now thinking about it I am pretty sure I did check the dipstick on the gearbox when I did it. I'll see how I go with the primary tomorrow.

Just reading this, i like Redline heavy shockproof gearbox oil, used it is my Dyna for around 8 years, the gear box was checked once & checked out like new has 100,000k very hard ones, that hard the bottom end of the twin cam motor went south, but gearbox still as new.

Steve if your gear shift clunky could be primary oil too thick, i used ATF Type F in primary change that regular, have used redline MT in primary too no clutch drag at all.

not sure where to buy Redline Oil's in Australia now, as distributor has changed to Rocket Industries. anyone know any shops that stock it in NSW now?
