hi all
I am scraping my header pipes on the ground. Only the pipe from the front pot hits but, 3 rides and this is the damage so far. I am not that worried about the heat shield which is less 20 thou thick now, and actually thru in one spot. But I am worried about when I go thru the heat shield and start scraping the pipe on the ground. I would be interested if anyone else has this problem on their fatbob? I guess I gave 2 options keep riding till it fails, then replace or lean the bike less. Leaning less sounds like no fun so my other question is what 2-1 pipes give good ground clearance both front and back?
Thanks Pato
I have included a pic of the area
Sounds like ya should have bought a sporty.... New pipes might give you more clearance, Going around the corners slower is less fun, If your not happy with your suspension you could look at different suspension that would both raise the bike a little and won't compress as much in the corners.
A few blokes put Wideglide fork tubes in there Bob's,they are 2" longer than the Fatbob's...
Big radius pipes are notorius for this! why i got rid of my BR 2-2.
Firming up the front end helps heaps i found mine mainly scaped when leaned over and the suspension was loaded up being that from a dip in the corner or hard braking and such.
Since putting V H big shots i have never scraped.
I am still waiting for my Bassani road rage 2 into 1 from the states once i get them i will let you know how they go, If they scrape the big shots are going back on, i was told they wont though so i hope all will be good.
I scaped my big radius 2 into 2 at the same spot as you and at the rear aswell i weigh 95kgs firming the suspension helped.
I've had the following after market pipes on a 2007 Street Bob and they all scrapped:
V&H Short Shots
V&H 2:1 Pro Pipe
Think if you research a little you will find most after market pipes scrape...
Thanks for your thoughts guys. I am gonna stick with what I got for the time being. Ride it till winter next year then look at some other engine mods including option on the pipes. cheers Pato
"pato" weve gotta sort this out bloke. Cant avya holdin up those caravans on the corners old son. Get online and check out MCAS (go into the custom catagory you will find suspension) or give em' a call 0296481400 (the crew there are fkn awesome) and suss out the PROGRESSIVE FORK SPRINGS these will lift the front end bout half an inch and stop any front end damping on corner road depressions and will improve handling, use the original spacers and if it still scrapes they come with fork tube spacers so you could cut those 10mm longer than stock also, I think theyre about 110 bucks piece'o'piss to install and any order regardless of what you get is $8 delivery Australia wide, and you will receive them in 1-2 days, like I said theyre fkn awesome you wont find bits for your bike anywhere cheaper than them.you may even be able to back that rear suspension off a little then ol"mater. hoping this will help you ..................................................... stay cool, happy days and ROCK ON AUSTRALIA....regards FLIPDOG
seen many a mark on Softies, but not many Dyna's with scrape marks
Hey man
so I did your east gippy, omeo, hotham, bright, oxely, whitfield, mansfield, black spur ride. What a great day out, just under 1000kms in 13 hours. I was pretrty tired the next day but what an awesome ride.
I read on another forum here you have been talking to Brian at EBT. I am also talking to him about upgrades to my fatbob. He is a ripper bloke always happy to help.
Take it easy Pato
I have Bassani road rage. hey are a good looking, good sounding pipe and I have no scrape issues.
the front pipe certainly tucks up nice and close to the cam cover. thats where I have issues. where did you source them from? cheers pato
I had a look at my primary today and I have a very similar looking scrape. I now have to do something as the issue is now getting worse. The rear heat sheild is now cracked, the bracket that is welded onto the inside of the heat sheild that the hose clamp goes thru is broken, the header pipes heat sheild are now worn thru and badly dinted as well as the scrape on the primary cover. Time to look at suspension me thinks. I did that ride or a very similar one to the one you described up over hotham via bairnsdale; 988kms in 1 day what a blast.
