Some (really) basic mod questions

Picked up my 48 last Friday, wanting to give it a little facelift for cheap while I save for the big stuff and give it a bit of time on warranty before messing with too much.

Exhaust is a little bit too chrome for me, taking the heat shields off, roughly how much pipe wrap would I need to cover them both? 50ft? 25ft?

Also trying to decide between an OEM faboy 7" headlight replacement, or  an EMD Vitamin C housing.

Another thing, are slip ons going to make the bike run lean without a retune? Wouldn't mind it louder, but noticing a lot of slip ons cost more than bloody full systems.

You will need 50ft of wrap. Make sure it's one that won't fade after 20 minutes. DEI make a good wrap.

Slip on only will be fine. Might get a bit of pop on decel but won't be detrimental to engine life. Although a cheap set of xied's would be a worthwhile investment at the same time.

rush slipons sound good, and are fairly cheap. You only need xieds etc. if you do both ac and slipons. one or the other is ok without. like brash said...

Ah sweet, thanks Brash that was the other thing I meant to ask, "which pipe wrap actually work and don't just disintegrate" haha. DEI it is.

Really fighting whether to spend money on slip ons or just leave it until I get a full exhaust. The Kinetic 540 is only $850 with $30 shipping to Aus. Slip ons are going to cost around the $400 mark anyway. Only done 100km, but is sounding a little better already.

Stock system with good slip ons works really good. Changing to a full system mostly for looks unless it's a gun 2-1 system. My bassani pro street caused a slight loss in bottom end if anything. But come 3000rpm it transforms the bike!

Hi Man, just got my forty eight and it was suppossed to come stock standard and then I was meant to come back a few days later and get the mods I got on the deal, mainly Stage 1 super Tuner with V&H SS and Heavy Breather, I found that I get a lot of vibration on low revs especially on first gear and when accelarating until i get to higher revs, I have to engage the clutch all the time when coming to a stop in traffic way before I have to. Do you find a lot vibration from your bike? I am taking it for a check up tomorrow for dealer to see.

Yea there's a lot of vibration, especially at low speeds. Given the higher km test ride I had wasn't so bad, and it feels a little smoother than it was at the beginning, I'm not going to worry about it much until I hit my run in service. Also found the gears are loosening up, was super harsh and rattly at low RPM the first 50km. Still is for 5th as I haven't really had a chance to use it much yet. Up to about 200km now haha.

US, but when I put in an AU shipping address it only wanted to charge $30 which I thought was pretty amazing. A lot of US companies *cough* revzilla *cough* only want to ship internationally with stupid expensive premium options.

Kinetic 540s are cool looking, but I bet they're cop magnets. Nothing wrong with the right slipons btw, pity I didn't go down that road.

Is there a change from 2012 to 2013 for slip ons? Or should all 2004+ fit?

Will fit fine no change between those years.

Anyone know if there would be much of a sound and performance difference between the Bassani Bologna and Freedom slip ons? Finding good reviews on the freedom's, but can't find squat on the Bolagna. Prefer the look of the bologna.

Gha, now I've hurt my head with all this 2013 vs 2014+ rubbish.

Is the only difference in the exhausts between 13 and 14, that in 14 they moved the crossover from the muffler to the pipes, and the muffler now has a cat inside? No diameter or mounting differences? Should any 07-14 slip on without balance pipe bungs fit?

Keen on the Bassani Bologna cut, but they don't make them for 14+, so making sure it'll fit first.

For anyone else wondering. Balance pipe is moved, headers are slightly longer, and spacing on the mounts is a little different. Also a few 2014 mufflers appear to be a little shorter than 2007-13 which I presume is due to the longer headers.

So they'll fit as long as mufflers don't have a balance pipe mount, but they'll stick out more, and the holes in the mounting bracket need to be elongated.

Nice bike dknigs as another option there is the change of gas tank if you get sick of going to the servo to fill up all the time, the Iron 883 tank will bolt on with a kit you can purchase from HD. We did one recently at work and a lift kit, hid the wiring and ignition coil it came up a treat.

I'm considering customing up a guzzi or triumph tank at the moment, more likely to lower it down to the top of the cylinder. Something a bit different :)

Wont happen for a little bit though, first brand new vehicle I've bought, so I'd like to make use of any warranty issues that might pop up.

Also worked out the reason it sounded so damn terrible were some loose muffler bolts that eventually worked their way out, obviously doesn't sound like the meanest bike around with stockers, but some with some new bolts to stop it rattling around like an old singer sewing machine it sounds and feels a hell of a lot better.

Anyone recommend some clamps for tying down the heat wrap? I was going to use those solid bolt down ones for silicone joins on turbo cars, but realised it'll be far too tight a fit up at the engine end of the pipes.

go to bunnings, stainless steel hose clamps.

Haha, spose as long as it wont rust it should be good, not like I'll blow a fitting, it's just heat wrap.
