I use the old Mr Sheen for chrome and paint. Wash with dishwashing liquid.

Sounds like good stuff, do you know of any auto shops you can get it from or is it just through the contact above?

I have found for me a good old hot wax car wash by hand and a chamois is the best! That way there's no scratching anything and your bike comes up like new!! On my alloy parts I use a cordless drill with a wollen duster attached bought from Wollies which brings the shine up to perfection without any elbow grease!! It takes all of 1 hour to bring the bike up to new again!!

I'm lucky I don't have to worry about polishing paintwork, and although I love the look of chrome, I'm not big into spending all my time keeping it clean, BUT, I do recommend Californian Custom Purple metal polish and Meguiars NXT All Metal Polysh. they are both excellent in my opinion. I got heavy, dull pitting out of the triple trees after a week in the salt air along the southern coast. mate I was with used autosol and couldn't get anywhere near the shine and finish I acheived..

Never really had to worry about it much before on a bike, so what do you use to wash it that doesnt cause rust if you leave it? I have some stuff for the wheels that sprays on and hoses off, but what about the rest of it?

Can you believe my spell checker higlighted it, I then googled the spelling and made sure it was the correct definition (in case there was more than one) and still fucking managed to spell it wrong when I typed it...
You can't buy my level of dumb!

    Edit for spelling.

I have just been told that insect spray is really good for getting bugs off paint and chrome. This guy told me he uses it on his car and it works really well. Anyone tried it?

I gave a another fella my bottle of CC Purple and jar of Meguiars to try and he was impressed to go and buy both... the Meguiars is excellent on the trees as it leaves a coating that seems to make getting the bugs and shit off easier, and is 'supposed' to help protect against salty air etc...... I hadn't cleaned/polished my bike since last summer, and forgot how good it looks when done........

Purple polish is a very good product.  Wipe on / wipe off.

Not real cheap, but lasts a long time.  http://www.calcustom.com.au/

i used the Harley stuff they gave me at PS tonight but forgot the blower vac from work, so had to go for a ride afterwards instead

Spend more time cleaning the bloody thing than riding it. Isnt there a mob in Adelaide that do bike detailing? Might have to get them out when its really bad. Too slack myself

I've stumbled onto a polish that's really impressed me.
I worked in the crash trade for many years and always liked the 3m product range but recently was recommended I try a different product called 'Juice' Speed Wax. It's a water based cream wax that can not only be used on paint but does just as good a job on shining up chrome as any metal polish I've used.
Being water based it goes on AND buffs off alot easier than solvent based polishes and does a really nice job on my Vivid Black tins. Plus it has the added bonus of and convenience of doing the painted areas and chrome in one application.

Live by the sea too and always use silicone spray after I wash bike. Makes it easier to get dirt stains off. Helps on non chrome parts.
