Discolouration on LHS exhaust 2014 Ultra

Has anyone come across this before where the left hand side exhaust tip gets discoloured whilst the right hand side one doesn't. I've noticed the exhaust gas out of the left hand pipe is hot whilst the exhaust gas out of the right hand side is cooler air.

Is this normal. The bike is a 2014 Ultra Limited and has a Stage IV kit in it. It has V&H Power Dual headers mated to V&H Hi Ouput slip ons. I did ask the service dudes at the dealers where I bought it and they said it's normal.

Sadly I have very little mechanical knowledge so I don't know if it's normal or not. If it's normal I can live with it. But if it's not normal then I need to work out a fix.

The pictures below are after the bike has been washed. The left hand pipe discolours very quickly and gets quite black. If you rub the black exhaust dust off there is a yellowish stain on the chrome which takes some getting off with chrome polish.

    Any help appreciated.

It could several things including AFR. What sort of klm do you get from it on the open road?

not sure about your twin system why only one is doing that, but my 2 into 1 pro pipe has the same discoloration as yours.

I fill it from the side stand and can get around mid to late 300's in terms of range. I would assume filling it from a centre stand would give you some more fuel capacity but I could be wrong. About 350km is about standard 2 up and loaded.

Maybe thats part of the issue, it sounds as though it runs rich, too much fuel, hence the black soot you mentioned. And as a result poor fuel consumption.  As unleaded fuel does not burn like "old fuel" the pipe discolouration should not be of too much concern. My Street glide has a similar colour end of pipe. Just my thoughts.

Yeah it was dyno'd at 1st service and the AFR was supposed to be ok. I can live with the cosmetic side of it as long as I know nothing nasty is lurking behind it.

    hi,

are your spark plugs showing the same with the front cylinder plug looking a bit richer? get the dealer to put on dyne or hook up tuner and reduce VE by say 3-4 across whole table for front cylinder, shouldn't change how bikes run, but if does go back in and readjust where problem

    thanks

I think it's more a function of the exhaust system design rather than the tune.
The power duals have an X pipe, so effectively a 2-1-2, but the left and right pipes are severely unbalanced.
This causes a huge difference in flow and back pressure between the two pipes.

Thanks everyone. I suspected that the Power Dual headers may have been responsible in some way for the hot air/cool air differences between the pipes because of the power chamber set up. I'll check the plugs for fouling and get the AFR checked next service to rule out any running rich problems. I appreciate everyones feedback, its been very helpful. Might be just the price I pay for chasing HP :)

Are you happy you happy with the sound, I have the same set up and compared to the stock CVO system I am very happy with the sound.

Has the active exhaust valve been disabled?
