Rear suspension recommendations

    Hey guys,

I'm looking to upgrade the rear suspension on my Forty Eight, with something that will drop the back end.

I don't want to restrict recommendations with a price etc, so come at me with anything reasonable.
I do take the misses on the back pretty regularly (I know, it ruins the single seat look :( )  so that needs to be considered as she moans about a numb arse already.

I guess the brief is - what is your suggestion of rear shocks that are really low, but don't give you to much of a bone shaking ride?
Note: They must be black (Theme)

    Cheers.

I would not get lower shocks. The standard ones are crap with 2 inches of travel if your lucky.

If your happy with your ride use a lowering kit that changes the position of the lower mount.
This will lower the back but keep the travel.

If your not happy with the ride, go after market shocks with longer travel so you dont bottom out and use the lowering kit.

Ok, so you're saying get 13's or similar and then just chuck a lowering kit on and we should be sweet.

Any brands etc you're recommend for both?

TMW make excellent ones, I'd safely use a 1inch, 1 3/4 or 2 inch stretching the boundaries as far as structural integrity IMO.

    Cheers Brash.

Ouch on the shipping - although they have the DK pedals that I want too, so might combine.

Looking at something like this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Progressive-412-Shock-12-5-Black-Harley-XL1200X-Sportster-Forty-Eight-2010-2013-/390950625272?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5b06791ff8
Then with a lowering kit, i'd like it nice and low so may go for the 2" if it wont actually hit the tire.

That should work well, it won't come near the tyre, mine are 10 inch shocks and miles of clearance, but the shocks are so stiff that any sort of backroad becomes an interesting ride haha.

Although it's pricey, I think my new setup of air ride and lowering link should provide a good compromise between slammed looks and comfort when raised.

For another option, consider maybe a set of Street Glide air shocks in 12 inch, combine that with a 1.5 inch block and I reckon you will have a nice ride and good looking height. You can run them without air and have a supple ride, or with a bike pump put a few psi in them and stiffen them right up for 2 up riding. But they are not height adjustable.

I see street glide shocks for sale on Ebay USA for $100 all the time.

here is the street glides with 1 3/4 block for reference, will fit right up, need 2 washers to space it out but other than that, bolt on.
