hello everybody, time for me to bite the the bullet and change out the ugly spokes on my 02 heritage with some nice shiny new ones,so-rollies can sell me buchanan polished stainless/stainless nipples for $260 per wheel,i can get the tyres off cut the old spokes out with bolt cutters and put the new spokes in,but im not confident to true a wheel, few questions for the brains trust-

1)am i going about it the right way or should i just buy new wheels?

2)should i be bothering to get new spokes/cut old ones out/put new ones in ready for truing or should i just hand the wheels over to someone else to do the lot?

3)who is good at building wheels in the newcastle area? most shops are not going to be as padantic with my bike as i am,i want some one whos interested in the work they're doing.

thanks heaps for any help people,

It will depend on a few things regarding replacing wheels or spokes. Are the rims in excellent condition, if not find out cost to get rechromed. Any new wheel you buy on the cheap with have you going down this same path again in a few years. If happy with the rims the ss spokes will last for ages. Can't help with who to use though.

Seriously, unless your really confident/keen, let the wheel guy do the lacing and true'ing.

The main thing is that your hubs aren't cracked or worn where the spokes fit, and corrosion inside the rim.

These guys are all meant to be good. (list courtesy of ADVrider.com - overlandr )
