Sporty Alarm relocation

    Sportster owners,

I've purchased a second hand set of Legend air suspension for my Forty Eight for a bargain.

Install should be a peice of piss, however, in their wisdom.... Harley have located the alarm module on a bracket that connects to the rear brake master cylinder. This is where the Compressor and manifold is meant to go in the Legend kit.

So my question is, is this where all Sporty OEM alarms are located? I'm pretty sure it's just the Australasian ones that come like this from my research.

Looking at the bike, I will be buggered where else I can fit this bulky box. It's about 8cm x 5cm (L x H) So under the seat is a no go.

Really want to tackle this project, but if someone has overcome this obstacle before, I'm all ears.

    Thanks.

The alarm sits under the battery and is part of your turn signal module.
The box under is the speaker with a battery back up.

So in the short, the alarm will still arm and indercators will still flash, you just wont have a speaker to here it go off.

I have heard of others hooking up different types of speakers to save money and space.
Might just taking a little digging aound to find some links.

You could put it just above the starter motor and free up the space under the swinging arm

Thanks guys, I didn't know it was a speaker only. That is a bonus I suppose. I could possibly live without the siren anyway.

I thought about relocating the box in that position jinda, but would it get stuffed with heat?

Found the instructions, if you get rid of the black box I reckon I could jam the guts of it somewhere, worse case scenario is I remove the siren and keep the immobiliser active.

OK so for future reference if anyone is in the same situation, you can add an alarm to any HD with the security pack.

So i'll remove the siren and box, wire in a small peizo screamer and hide it in the left side cover hopefully.

Red wire from siren plugs into brown wire on bike harness
Black wire from siren plugs into green wire on bike harness

so that free up the whole undercarriage of the bike and allows for the bags to be installed un-impeded.

can read more about the alarm mod here.

I knew I saw it somewhere.

The only thing you miss out on is the battery back up. But I cant see that being a problem

Benifit would be that it won't sound like any other Harley around you.

    Good find.

Got it done, spent 2 hours fitting the airride, and 4 hours relocating the alarm. Ended up re-using the standard alarm and made a small bracket to mount it to the underside of the compressor plate. Looks factory.

Initial thoughts on the air ride is it isn't as soft as I thought It would be, but man it's much better than my previous setup. It just makes me realise how bad the stock front suspension is now.

Well done dude., and the Legend Air Aero-A is 20 times better again..... First things that should be done to a sportster - front and rear suspension (correctly not off the shelf parts)
