I have just replaced the Pirelli night dragons with Avon Cobra's, The Pirellis are nowhere near as good as the Avons!
My bike is a 14 Fat Bob with stage iv kit fitted, and as we all know the Dunlop 427 isnt much chop once you have ridden them in the wet or have done a bit of work to your ride, so after a lot of researching i ended up buying the Pirelli Night Dragons,
Even though the Pirellis were better than the Dunlops in the wet and through the twistys they lacked grip when you powered on from a standing start! I was very disappointed in their launch grip, I also found them to be a bit unpredictable at times when up it into a fast corner 6k rpm click into second gear she stepped out quiet a few times unpredictably!
The Avons - Fuck me what a difference rode from Gold Coast Harley straight up to Springbrook to scrub them in. These tyres have so much more grip that when it was time to see how much wheel spin there would be off the mark i gave her a handful let go of the clutch she just hooked up wtf front wheel even lifts up I went with the 200/60/16 on the rear fuck what a difference clears everything no worries and looks horn, i thought i might have given away a little with the steering using the 200 but no it counter steers very nicely flips side to side just the same actually suits the Fat Bob better i think,this tyre has a much smoother feel to it and is very quiet out on the road, gas it up out of a corner and it just hooks up not one bit of slip i can get so much more power to the ground.
My rear pirelli was done at 6000k so will have to wait and see what i get out of the Avons so far i have only put 300 ks on them but regardless of when they expire i will be using these tyres again.

Do you mind me asking what they cost you? I'm about to change the tyres on my 2011 FatBob and was planning to do exactly what you have with the 200 on the rear.

Thanks for the heads up on them tyres Bozza. About to run the Dunlop out so this has made my mind up. Mines a 2011 FXDF so there shouldn't be no drama using the 200 Avon ??

just put a set of night dragons on fxr feels like a totally different bike totally satisfied allso put a new front tyre on the xr went with a pirelli angel gt must give a big wrap to gold coast motorcyle tyres at mermaid beach excellent service and price go and see them!!!
What size ya running on the front Bozza? I'd read a lot of the U.S. guys go 200 Avons on the bobs but run a 150 up front or something?

I'm gonna keep it in mind Bozza. I got that other motor going in soon and will need a wee bit more traction. I still don't mind the Dragons as a direct comparison to the Dunlops(shit) and Metzelers (ok). As long as I don't take a backward step I'll be happy. I haven't got any vibration issues with the pirellis though??
No, the 124 R&R long motor should arrive in a fortnight. New pipes clutch compensator roller rockers HPI throttle body etc is all here waiting. Went with that because of the crank and gear drives,heads etc. Nothing over the top just reliable hp/tq combo.
Sorry Bozza I been running around up on the border for a few days. I'm running the 180 on the rear now and yeah it seems fine once warm. A bit slippery cold but in a predictable way, I don't mind that. I'm not sure I'll put the 124 in before xmas yet. Don't really want it off the road now this sun has finally shown up. Well for a few days anyway. Bloody Mexican weather.
Not wrong Bozza. The fatbob is still the go for a longer ride though. Must be getting old as I'm favouring comfort over performance. Sort of those two are chalk n cheese to ride. Horses for courses and all that.
