Amber Bulb through Amber Lens

Gidday all ... recently posted if anyone knew where i could get 12 V 23 W bulbs ... the small globe type ... finnaly got my hands on 1 bulb , man its crazy how hard those things are to find .

Anyhow the type i got was a clear glass bulb ... my question is would Amber bulbs still shine bright enough through a Amber Lens ... the reason being is i can get a Amber bulb from Castlereigh here in Aus and can also get some chrome bulbs that are surpossed to flash Amber out of the states , but if when they flash Amber they are not bright enough through the Amber Lens then i don`t want to waste my money .

Fingers crossed with the 1 off bulb i finnaly found there won`t be another issue but fate being what it is then it would be nice to have a back up ... friggin guy in Aus wants  6 Bucks for 1 bulb and 10 bucks to post inside of Aus ... thats the Amber one .

The Yank one is a pack of 4 costing 9 bucks and 10 bucks to post from USA to here ... but his is the chrome ones that are surpossed to flash Amber.

Thanks for any feed back ... Tim

Most of the amber bulbs I've seen are just a coating on the glass.
Just a thought, but if they were too dark, I'm sure you could easily remove the coating, but I'm sure they would be OK anyway.
I had a chrome brake light bulb (red obviously) and it was fairly dark compared to a clear bulb.

    Are these for indicators ?

    Front or rear ?

Yank import or "Aussied 5HD" ?

Reason I ask is all the Yank imports have twin filament amber globes in the front indicators ( like an Aussie brakelight only Amber !)

Most importers just disable one feed wire and leave the US spec twin filament globes in place

Thay are 1157 NA or 1157 A , and they are hard to find in Australia

Tried Bursons? They always seem helpful when tracking down bulbs.

I've had this same problem before. Easiest and fail-safe solution is to go to an arts and craft store and buy orange coloured glass paint to put on clear bulbs. Takes two secs to paint and you then bake in the oven for a short time on low temp for the glass paint to set. For the non glass part of the bulb I wrap in al foil to stop paint running where you don't want it and to protect the metal part of the bulb in the baking process.  I've done it numerous times and it works a treat

Retroman ... the bulbs are for the rear indicators ... single bayonet type ... got a clear glass globe type luckily here in Brisbane so all is good for now but got these amber ones coming in from USA just as a back up .

Nomada ... that is always a way to go except of course then I would have to tack down clear lens that fit my particular Bullet indicators .

Bonkerz ... Have them on my list to try ... it`s not like I have tried every where , just that the few places I have tried were not able to help and after extensive EBay and internet research it seems that there are more Amber Bulbs than clear globe types hence the query if a Amber Bulb would still shine as bright through a Amber Lens as much as a Clear globe seems to .

Fatbat ... I think I may have relayed the wrong message ... I can get Amber Bulbs , all be it from overseas mainly ... the problem is there is a for some strange reason a issue getting the Clear Globe type that are what was in the indicators originally ... as above it was just a query as to wether a Amber Bulb would be as bright through a Amber Lens like a Clear Bulb type seems to be .

For now I have a good Clear bulb in and working and when the Bulbs I got from USA turn up I will then have my answer I suppose ... just one of those weird things that pop up every now and again when we change our bikes from Standard to modified ... Thanks all for your comments .
