Whats the best catch can for Harley 103 breakout im getting oil blowby into my cleaner after only 3500k ?? taking it to dealer for warranty check to rectify but thinking of redirecting the dirty gasses anyway
i have a sceaming eagle heavy breather fitted what do i need to fit a catch can ??
What are the piston things in pic
Sadly welcome to a 103. Mine has done it since new. Got some help from the boys on here and have ended up drilling and tapping some fittings and braided hose and now vents to the ground. Will try to get some pics for you if interested.
Yeah mate upload some pics ...are you using a se heavy breather on the 103 ?
the pic with the addition to vents isnt mine i found that on net and wanted to know what they are but ive since found out its a generic cleaner based on se heavy breather except it has catch cans those piston things
i have a se heavy breather the bikes only done 3500 the blow by started atter replacing the 2-2 pipes for 2-1 pipes at the first service..checked oil level its midway between low and high..ifs not alot of blowby it qll the same id rather not have that crap going thru my intake.. i want to divert into catch can so im guessing ill.have to tap fittings into backing plate and block internal vent holes or.change to different cleaner that vents externaly
something like this this is an se heavy breather backing plate exactly like mine...ugly as ...is there another filter that vents to atmosphere instead of intake
There are a few write ups on the site about how to do it. Hill did one from memory also.
some thing like this, it just dumps to atmosphere, if going to a catch can you need to empty it often
Bit Late, but i used an s&s read valve in cam chest , basicaly it lets pressure from crank case into cam chest then stops it returning. works like a one way valve, i used one on my 01 TC 95 inch dyna, then just a hose from the breather to the ground or a plastic bottle if went to drags. but never had oil coming out the breather hose. In old day's on a Stroker Shovel i had i was riding it for 10 years with small crack in piston, as i'm deaf did not hear anything & she did 1/4 mile in 11.7 so did not seem to slow her down. but it sure blew a lot of oil out, i used to have like a ratchet peg i would use on the hose going from oil tank to motor so no oil ran into crank while it was standing, was kick start only, i would kick it & as soon as she fired up i would take the peg off oil hose. but the TC has two oil pumps so has improved oil scavenging from crank. just take the hose out the air cleaner, fire motor & see how much oil comes out i doubt you will see any at all, but can have a fine spray sometimes & that builds up in aircleaner , so its ok just runing a hose out and down, just keep eye on it. no need for a filter as mostly all blow not suck.
For a Heavey Breather to Vent to Ground this is what ya need to do

Mate I use an 1/8BSP fitting with a 5/16 barb for a 5/16 hose
Grubscrew was just a 5mm one from memory
you also need to drill a hole into the side of the breather bolt and blank of the end with a grub screw as well
he is another pic of another aircleaner but done the same
