just wondering if anyone knows how many 1974 sportsters there are in Australia or if anyone knows a way to find out? Was told they are pretty rare here!

Are you asking 74 as in the year1974 or do you mean the 72 a current model still be sold.

Anyway, welcome Dougie. Might be able to find out through Harley or even how many are registered?
1,000 cc with kickstart (whatever that is)

A quick google and it seems sportsters have been made continuously since the 50's... and post '72 were 1000cc.
