Got home last night from covering the first 2000klm and service done on the Ultra Limited. With steady rain outside this morning, what better time to explore the oil filter I got the shop to save for me.

 

Wasn't sure what to expect, but happy with the odd shaving and the few chips found (being the first service). Am curious to repeat process next time around.

I do very much the same - but go one step further. I also have the oil analysed which gives me peace of mind with respect to wear elements and the state of the oil itself.
I generally service every 4,000 Ks. So far it's kept me out of trouble.

Cheers Fritzables, I'm familiar with the sampling the big players do ( Cat, Komatsu ), who looks after private samples? Hadn't thought to look into it that far.... thanks again.
