Gidday all , recently had fitted a 6 Piston Pm Caliper and Full Floater Rotor to my 99 Springer ... turned out great but had a few hurdles on the way ... got more details in the Softail section under " 99 Springer Project " , for those who are interested .

Just courious if anyone else has gone down this path .

I am going down a similar path with fitting 13 inch rotor on pre 1999 front end on my chopper project, trying to find a 13 inch rotor that doesnt have buttons protuding out from disc only about 1/8 inch clearance with solid disc. There are some around RC components, RSD would have to eyeball them to make sure they would work. Presently have 11.5 inch disc with Pm 6 piston caliper but found an adaptor braket in states made by V twin Mfg to run 13 inch rotor on pre 1999 forks, arrived today checked clearance should work fine, just need to find $500 for disc. Also seen Arlen Ness big brake for 2000 up softails 15inch rotor looked good was going to make adaptor to run on pre 1999 forks , but buttons on rotor looked way to large so decided not to order it only to find would not work.

Yeah the Buttons caught me out a little as well ... on my other ride , a 08 Softail Custom I went with the 13" RC Components front rotor with another 6 piston PM calliper ... far superior to standard that's for sure ... then that wouldn`t be hard to achieve , Lol .

Got mine from M & M Cycles out of Ohio ... really good to deal with although I did get mine when the Aussie dollar was in a lot better condition ... when I purchased it the price was $345 ... at the time I saw simular rotors here for $580 ... so the cost saving was quite considerable

Add to this at the same time I got the 6 piston PM Calliper which cost $415 ... again the prices here were up around the $600 mark ... the shipping cost for both items sent together was $90 ... so all up it was $850 for what would have cost me here at the time close to $1200 ... so it was worth going overseas , but as mentioned with the dollar not in real good shape at the moment it might be just as well dealing with someone on home turf .

Now both of those items above were for my 08 Softail ... the Black contrast 6 piston Calliper I got for my Springer I got from Rollies up here in Brisbane and that cost $560 + $15 for a bolt kit .

There is a mob down in Sydney called Griffin Cycles that is a sister site to M & M and if you aren't keen on the internet / overseas buying capper they might be worth a call ... the option Captain Hook mentions above might be worth checking out as well .

I think the main thing to be sure to do regardless which way you go is do your research first and make sure everything fits because once you get something , especially from overseas you might have a problem getting a refund ... hope this info helps a little .

Just something you might want to check as well ... read where you say you have a 6 piston PM Calliper now on a 11.5" rotor and you are getting a adaptor bracket to run on pre 99 forks ... just to be sure and not cost you anything extra but I think there is a difference between a 6 piston Calliper that fits a 11.5" rotor as opposed to one that fits a 13" rotor .

Would be a pain if you went to all the trouble of getting all the gear to find the Calliper didn`t fit the larger rotor ... not a 100% sure of this but be worth sussing out first I reckon .

The Arlen Ness and RSD rotors are nice but fricken expensive , Lol ... not sure on sizes but EBC or possibly Lyndall , to be honest can't remember which , have some trick rotors , they have this full floater set up that doesn't have the bobbins and are supposed to be of a pretty high quality ... just another option to maybe investigate .

Thanks for the replies, I think the buell rotor is 340 mm and th13inch one is 330mm so probably wouldnt work. TJU does the RC rotor you used have buttons  to attach the disc to the carrier, from what I have seen the RC rotors are lug drive so no buttons , or if they have buttons they dont protude out very much and wouldnt cause the clearance problems. The adaptor I,ve got is for relocating caliper further out for 13 inch rotors, they use similar for RC  13inch rotor conversion for touring harleys. As a matter of interest the Arlen Ness big brake has  a relocation bracket for a 15 inch rotor, and still uses stock caliper, I looked at that but only for 2000 up harleys, at around 270US not bad buying for large 15 inch rotor and relocation bracket, doesnt seem to be much info on them on the web........., anyway looking at it figured buttons would cause same clearance problem, so decided with bracket for 13 inch caliper, and find rotor with no clearance issues.....Thanks

No Bobbins on the RC rotor and on the other side the locking points seemed to be recessed ... hope the pics come across ok .

Thanks for the pics TJU, pretty sure that style disc would work with my set up, have Renegade front wheel with later style sealed 3/4 bearings,52mm OD, that take 2000 up rotors. Just waiting on transport to pull their finger out to get it registered, its an ICV done all the tests brake test, noise test , engineers report etc, they have had the documentation 2 months . I have a willwood 11 1/2 inch disc at the moment, but will be upgrading to 13 inch rotor once i get it on the road............. Cheers

Yeah your right Harley Breakout pipes, had to modify them a little to fit in the photos they are breakout headers with cobra 3" slip ons with 2" baffle,at the moment have stock mufflers for noise test and until rego......Also have changed S&S Super E out for 45mm Mikuni, seems to have better throttle response just from the little riding I have been able to do.................Cheers
