Ive just finished fitting S&S heads, 583 cams, Fueling lifters , Zippers Cam chain tensioner..
If anybody has fitted these heads, Im wondering on their choice of vent exit on front pot..
There's 2 options, basically 2 holes [exits] , 1 grub screw..
I thought I went with S&S's prefered option which doesnt allow it to vent out into air filter..
Im not sure if I put the screw in the right hole after all,
Ive got too much pressure in front topend, and its causing a bit /lot of smoke,
mainly on backing off from high revs...
My first thought was a stem seal, but everyone I talk to with much time with S&S reckon no way
Anyway, front pots gettin a strip down on the weekend, will let ya know
Bump...
I'd l;ike to hear if anyones had any issues of this kind with these heads
Even if only to give me new shit to worry about..
Cant go near it until weekend
Have you asked Cruza, isn't he an S &S guru...
Yeh, he tends to agree with me.
Ive done something wrong with breather set up
DOH
I just read the info below and if you have the newer s&s heads with the short style breather you need there rocker covers. Not sure if this your problem or not but I also read they don't recomend claying the 1.940 intake valves. I had to open the valve pockets up to except 1.9 valves on my old cast 103 pistons Good Luck hope its a easy fix. http://www.sscycle.com/files/7713/7033/9919/51-1108.pdf
Made some progress this arvie
took the front rocker box off, and swapped the screw from S&S;s preferred option,
to the way the factory intended, breathing into the airfilter...
Seems to have worked a treat, so far.
But by the time we finished, it was tea time, so only rode it the 15 k home
But I will go out on a limb, and say I think we had a win
Now the Powervision isnt trying to tune a front pot drinking oil, it should be a rocket after test n tune day tomorrow
