Exhaust Compatability

Hey fella's...I am thinking of putting a set of standard headers and slip on's on my 2010 Wideglide...Does anyone know if Softail header pipes will fit a Dyna motor?? Is it only the mounting system that is different..My other alternative would be to get a Street bob system or earlier Wideglide system and see if it would fit a 2010 Wideglide...I want to go down this path as I don't like the standard header system on the 2010 and up Wideglides and I want a change from my Bassani Road Rage...

    Cheers...Sparra

What's up with the road rage ? Mine was as loud as fuck but the exhaust drone me nuts. I modified the end cap with a 4 1/2 inch supertrapp baffle running 26 discs closed cap with great success over 3 years.

Try some and see, the later Softail based bikes came in more shapes, would think that they would be close to fitting. The softies have a solid mounted motor which might make the mounts a bit different to your rubber mounted one. I fitted parts of an old Evo system to a 2008 Softail at one stage when I was stuffing around trying out different combinations. Good thing about Harley's is that sometimes its like Lego, lots of stuff can be swapped. Nothing wrong with a standard system with slip ons or Supertrapps, might even be better than what you had before.

I used to run 24 discs in mine until i figured out that I got a better power band, better economy and less noise with 16 discs with a closed end cap (well modded motor, 2:1 system). Tried it without any discs to see what a straight through was like and lost a heap of power, gained noise and ran rough as, more like a two stroke, the top end wasn't quite as strong either. 2 km down the road had less discs back in it and everything was better. Quicker, quieter and cheaper to run.

I have been looking into Supertrapp parts and can find end caps and disc's but not the part that fits into the actual megaphone for the disc's to screw into...any idea's where to get this or a complete kit. I don't really want to buy a Supertrapp megaphone...

What are you fitting it onto?

You can buy Supertapps that are not just the ones made to suit a Harley system or the Supertrapp 2:1 Harley system.

There are lots of different Supertrapp mufflers, a heap are not made for Harleys, they are on dirt bikes to full on race cars and planes. They are, or were sold under the name Kerker as well. Ebay might be a way to get the guts out of one if its the same size if its dented or road rashed and going cheap. If you use them don't get carried away putting too many discs in, as they flow much better than you think.

Thanks for the reply...I am going to try to fit them into a Bassani Road Rage, short megaphone. Hopefully it will retain it's power but will quiet it down a little...

I used a round chunk of aluminum for the end donut that slips into the muffler. Imagine a solid piece of round aluminum billet 3 inches thick with a 2 1/2 hole through the middle that slips into where the bassani cone used to bolt in. From memory there's also 8 x 8 mm holes that need to be drilled and tapped into the billet to hold the discs and open or closed end cap. Suppertrapp recommend 24 discs closed cap for full flow or 12 discs open cap for full flow My build required 26 discs closed for the best performance to 6200 limiter.
There's a heap of my pics on Harley tech talk if you need to visualize how it all works.

I thought like that untill I saw a dyno graph of 130HP with 16 or 18 discs, can't remember which one it was, wasn't my bike, had a better spread of power than mine.

Mr Hook the Bassani Road Rage is a completely different 2-1 exhaust so what might work on a supertrapp might not work on the road rage. Internally both exhausts are completely different.
