302 Crane Cam with head work

Does anyone have the 302 Crane Cam installed on their bike and had any head work done to increase compression? I have the cam in my bike and am looking for more HP and wondering if some head work would get it close to 100/100 or if I need to go with a different cam. At the moment the bike has 88/96 and is a 2013 streetbob with the 103 motor. Any feedback appreciated.

Thanks Quack, that's the information I was after. Looks like I'll have to change the cam as well. Cheers.

How much cranking pressure do you have with those cam's now? I had the Crane 292 in a 95 twin cam 10.1 comp had strong torque performed good really strong bottom end midrange power& Torque

If you need to raise comp, I prefer to machine barrels shorter so piston comes up more in bore for a better swish. But have to find someone who has done the o ringed twin cam barrels.

Riggers, That cam is what it is and the heads are what they are. around these parts 100/100 is about max with stock heads, you have a good pipe and that won't hold you back, if you don't want to go over the top, I would fit a .030" headgasket and something like a andrews57 up to a fueling 574. if you want any more then the stock heads need to flow some more and then it starts to get a little costly and if ya getting the heads to flow why stop there get a Throttle body and really bump up the comp and get a big lift late intake closing cam and more cubes. I know were does it stop LOL

keep in mind you should be able to get something back on the cams you have now either to a mate or on gumtree.

    Cheers Ando,

Yeah, not knowing what's the best combo with these things I was just thinking it might save a few dollars. All good mate, will stick with your recommendation. Then 6 months later will want flowed heads and bigger throttle body ha ha.

the 57 would be nice ando , the 574 would require comp in crease to get best ,

I have S&S 570 cams in my stock 103 and it makes 104hp and 106tq

Also have Big shots exhaust and RSD air cleaner

Since I had the cams fitted, the bloke that tuned it said he always gets above 100/100 out of these cams in the stock 103

    Cheers

Thanks Drac, so many choices with cams. Have you got the dyno chart from your tune that you can post?

Thanks Drac, good result for a cam in a stock engine.

    Agreed.

Anyway that dip in torque of about 700 revs, whilst right in the midrange, still gives you no less than 90 foot pounds of torque which is pretty good.

What exhaust are you running? I wonder if that could be contributing to your dip in torque?

I was just looking at the earlier dyno chart from before I fitted the cams and with the Big shots and RSD air cleaner it had 88.55 hp and 102.23 torque

The dip is obvious with the cams fitted for about 700 rpm but even before the cams were fitted there is still a tiny dip in the same rpm area around 400rpm not that you'd notice it riding.

I've just bought some andrews 57h cams and upgrading my 96 top end to 103. Will zero deck or as close as possible and set compression to about 10:1. It should be reasonably similar to yours but I am running the v&h big radius 2-2 pipes which may not produce quite as good torque early on. Hopefully the bump in compression might assist things a little.

What tuning module is on your bike and did you upgrade any parts of the clutch?
