Comfort (or discomfort)

    Hi guys,

Recently I installed drag bars on my bike and I am loving the nimbleness of the steering. However, I went for a long ride yesterday (longest in a long time) of around 4 hours (broken up into two 2 hour blocks) and woke up today feeling like I'd had an incredibly long and tough gym session, particularly in my lower back where I bend over towards the bars.

I realise comfort is a subjective thing and I had been aiming for a cafe racer-esque bike but I am wondering whether or not a bobber style with forward controls and mini apes might be more comfortable. What is your subjective opinion (obviously there will be some difference in personal preference etc). Additional information, I am 6ft.

    Woz.

Know how you feel dude, I like the clamshell riding position low bars give but on a long ride your back and ass feels like it's done 10 years in prison as someones bitch.

Biltwell make a tracker bar which is low like the drags, but with a tiny bend and minimal pullback, I went with these after broomsticks and it's much nicer on the back and still looks the goods.

Recently changed my stock bars to the Hollywoods - The bike feels/handles much better and I'm surprised how much more responsive the steering is. I commute daily and overall the ride is more comfortable but have yet to go for a long ride...

I had Drag Bars on the 72, Loved the look... but i started to become so sore during the ride so i powder coated my original Mini Apes to Black and they are great!!!! So much better.
I have experimented with Mids but was not convinced.

Seat for me will be the next thing!

Thanks for the replies and ideas guys. I guess I'm trying to find the happy medium between looks and comfort. I guess I don't do that many rides of that length but I will be using it for commuting more next year. I also don't really want to get up the control and feedback that drag bars provide. Anyone with apes/mini-apes or similar comment on the turning ability, speed, control and feedback from higher bars?

I think part of the problem for me with the drag bars is I need rear seat foot pegs for my back but would have to replace so much in order to get that. That's why I was playing with the idea of forwards for a similar reason, that positioning may be more comfortable (with or without different bars).
