When I ride I like to take happy snaps, sometimes stationary other times while in motion. But I was over trying to get my iPhone 5s out of my pocket with gloves on so I started looking at other options. I have a half decent DSLR and a few lenses so something close to that but less bulk and eay to carry.

I considered a go-pro but while they are great for video the stills are nowhere near DSLR. After some digging I came across the Nikon AW1. It's not a full blown DSLR but still gives you plenty of lenses to choose from and takes a decent pic, the bonus is it's shockproof, waterproof, freezeproof and designed to be operated with gloves on. All Nikon 1 serires lenses work with the Aw1 but there are only 2 that are waterproof, 10mm & 11-27.5mm. The camera came with the 11-27.5mm. Its around $800-1000 Depending where you buy.

I set it up with a Joby pro sling and despite ordering a black at Teds only a Silver came in. It was an added bonus because I had a play with the silver for 2 weeks while I waited for my one and then exhanged.

The buttons are nice and big so you can shoot with gloves on. There is also a tilt-select menu feature where you just hold a button and tilt the camera to select the shooting mode you desire.

I've had the shooter for a few months now, taken nearly a thousand shots and I have to say for what it is - A substitute for my DSLR that I can ride with without fear of rain or dropping it. It's bang on.
