Anyone have issues with their 103 Compensator? Halfway thru a ride today the dreaded rattle started, it coming from the front of the primary. Sadly we are out of warranty!

Good luck there pauly. I've just pruchased the new SE one with the glue on deflector, Is this the same one as  the fibre washer mod one hilly or was that a previous incarnation. I knew GMR had the drip tray set up they offered as a cure. But as Harley released a similair arrangement with the deflector I thought the issues were gone. A liitle bit curious as the 124 will be going in soon.

I know what ya mean. Thanks. GMR might get a call.

Just sent GMR a message so will see what they say, Hopefully just replace needle bearing with the washer they supply in their kits.

Compensators are a bit of an issue in the states because of the high amount of high performace baggers there. Australia just doesn't have the numbers to have problems being an issue. percentage wise that is. Most aussie baggers are wrapped up in the shed waiting for the perfect latte day aren't they?

Well got my reply from GMR. They don't sell just the washer to replace the needle bearing in the current design. They sell it only as  complete kit.  Which obviously includes the tray etc.

I think the coffee is free at the dealer isn't it...lolyes

My comp developed a rattle and it turned to be a tuning issue . All I'm saying is before people race out and replace the compensator just double check the 02's are working and not detuning there engines. My 2007 comp has been handleing 100 + hp for the last 7 years and its still going strong touch wood.

Mine in the stgIV fatbob is still going well too. that's an 09' When it didn't start so well (prior proper tune) it used to make a big clang if it didn't fire on the first couple of winds, I'm guessing that noise is it kicking back off the ramps in the compensator. My upgrade is because the primary is coming off and whilst in there making it stronger more reliable with some upgrades etc. I've only used formula+ in mine but the yanks seem to reckon if you're using ATF or similar you'll get a failure.
Same as any problem there seems to be lots of theories and answers.

Certainly seems that way doesn't it. I'm a little surprised there hasn't been a sucessful aftermarket design instead of these tack/glue on fixes. Bit like the IPB's fucking out too. I think the auto chain tensioner gets the blame for that.

We'll see how the Lucas oils go in mine too. Bit worried about it all now. What's lucas say on the bottle " Primary oil is a coolant not a lubricant "or something.

Hope it's nothing major going on in your case...

note :I'm just changing to Lucas now as the new motor gets warranty with using the Lucas straight  50 so just changing it all  to Lucas.

Well well how things go in circles, last week i lost some gears on my streetglide and she was towed again to the dealer. They have pulled the bikes to bits and found a minor internal gear change spring has broken causung the issue, but surprise surprise the compensator is fucked! This is the thing that i have been back for 3 times, twice under warranty, and been told its all fine. Lastly for those not aware the compensator helps among other things to reduce the shock that goes thru the transmission , wonder if this caused the spring to fatigue, guess we will never know......

I would just ask them at Sunny Coast HD buddy, I am sure if you have complained about the compensator numerous times durign warranty they should look after you. How far out of warranty are you?
