Gidday from Lamplighter, what tool do I use to remove derby cover bolts on a 2006 sportster 1200 custom, the heads look different to anything I've seen. What size are these as I intend to replace them with chrome spike bolts x6, anyone know where I can buy these for my sportster? The bolt size board at bunnings worked perfectly to size my air cleaner insert bolts, thanks again for the tip, cheers.

It's a torx bit. Get a good set - kingchrome or better. You might need an impact driver to remove the fuckers, which supercheap auto usually has the cheapest - $15ish the last time I got one.

    No problem.
Sorry to state the obvious, but in this case I mean a socket torx set, if you're going with the impact driver. Having the key ones doesn't help with an impact driver :)
You might need one of those sockets that allows you to put on different size sockets too.
A breaker bar works well too (less likely to slip because you only use minimal pressure) as long as you fit the torx bit in snugly.

why would you need an impact driver on derby cover bolts Bonkerz? are you a bit limp wristed?

Nope. I've had several slip and fuck the head, probably because I'm the opposite of limp wristed. And of course, because I'm as stubborn as a mule and dumb as a hammer I held it on and turned it stripping them completely because they are made of shit. On a recent bike I managed to tear the fucking head off the crap because some dumbshit used red loctite and I was too lazy to grab the impact driver. So I had to drill out the hole and retap . I fucking hate all torx heads, even the ones made of decent metal.
