Well if anyone is going to know then hoppefully some of you good gentlemen will .

I have recently upgraded my 08 Softail Custom motor and am left with the stock Barrels and Pistons and Heads as well as the Cam Chain adjusters as i changed to Gear Drive .

I have a mate who has a mate type of situation who is pretty keen on buying the stock gear as he has a stock 96 cube softail as well and is a bit of a dab hand at porting and boring and what not and would like to have a play with my old gear but keep his own stock gear .

My gear has a Genuine 15,000 K`s on it ... " as far as i am aware " ... what do the good folk here think would be a fair price to sell it for ... he is a mate`s mate so i will most likely sell it cheaper than usal but to be fair to myself i don`t want to give it away ... it would be nice to try and recoup some small amount of money considering what i have spent on the old girl so far , Lol .

Go back thru the for sale section on the forum and you should see what the asking prices have been.

I would say about $300 for barrels and heads from a 96. $200 for a quick sale

    Wow , interesting comments ... S & S Heads , 1300.00 ... S & S Barrels & Pistons , 1050.00 ... of course these were the upgraded parts that I used .

Would have thought less than 1 / 4 of the price at 500 to 600 would have been a ok price ... when one considers that you can't bore a barrel if you don`t have one and the same with the heads .

But I take your point they are most likely going to just sit on the shelf and not ever get used again ... oh well if you don`t ask then you never know hey .

Agree with this. And the 103 barrels and heads worth a bit more again due to bigger bore and acr heads.

    Hi,

The bigger problem is finding someone to bore the stuff, you can buy them all day long on ebay for prices we have mentioned, but even then its useless if no machine shop around, yeah you can ship them OS or around the country too and hope all comes back (and for reasonable price than just buying new online) or get the dremel out

For the life of me i cant understand why no one here in Aus offers an exchange program where you send your stuff in, and you get some gear sent back, whether that be cylinders, heads or throttle body that come from other bike, when you look at these parts after many thousand kms they still like brand new

    Thanks

Good point there Robots ... how many thousands of guys here in Aussie land have perfectly good Barrels and heads and all sorts of goodies siting on the shelves going to waste .

I remember very recently a few people here saying why didn`t I bore out my barrels and get my heads ported and have the same done to the throttle body and so on when I chose to go the S & S Barrels and heads option ... reason was at the time and still now there are very few guys around who WANT to do it , and if you do find someone and I did find a couple , the waiting time was extremely long as far as I was concerned and money spent by the end of it was not that great a saving .

That to be fair this was why I thought my above figures were a fair price for someone who knew what they were doing ... I think Chops above has stated a set of barrels was about $740 for the set ... I couldn`t imagine a set of heads that are a bit more complex would be much cheaper .... so your looking at over $1500 or most likely a fair bit more before you even start boring or porting .

Of course mine have 15,000 K`s on them but that's just run in and if said person knew what they are looking at then they could tell if they were worth boring and porting in the first place .

Anyhow not to worry , I will offer them to the guy for what I consider is a fair price and if he doesn't want them then no harm no foul , just another set of motor parts to add to my growing collection , Lol
