Rear mudguard luggage strapping

In regard to strapping down a bag to the rear mudguard on a Dyna, or any non-tourer, would you just run the straps underneath the inside of the top nuts on your shocks? Or is there another anchorage point that you'd normally loop under, such as rear pegs. The top nuts on the shocks seems the obvious answer, so just wondering if there's any reason why you wouldn't?

Excuse my ignorance on the subject.

It depends on the tension you want to hold it down, I have used loops of paracord around the fender struts and tied down to that.

My preference is a roll bag on the bars:

I'm also planning on strapping this to my pillion on my next big trip:

Get some bungee nuts with the same thread as the nuts that hold your rear indicator strut on and you can strap to them they dont look crap and are very handy, you can get them from america on ebay if you cant find them here

I was gonna use a ratchet tie down on the top shock nuts, If the pressure from the shocks is coming from the wheel on up then it shouldn't lose tension to my thinking. It's only a 4-5kg overnight bag. There'll be lots of left over strap, so I was thinking a truckies knot for the excess strap. I guess my real question is, will having it secured to the shock top nut fuck with the spring tension on the rear shocks, or will the constant bumping of the shocks loosen the tension on the strap?
I think I'm making a mountain out of a molehill here.

I reckon I'll just do it and check it at my stops. Logic suggests it should be fine.

Whatever you decide to do, check it every stop....or sooner.....!!
