Just watched the channel 10 news there was a twenty two year old male and a female passenger killed.the bike was shown on tv looked like a street bob or sporty but only had a solo seat.
My point exactly!
My 2006 street bob came with a passenger seat that sits on the guard held on by 4 suction caps.they call it a fanny pad I think.sad news to hear though.
This was a dreadful accident and, no doubt, there were many different factors that contributed to it. It certainly appears in the photo that there was no rear seat although it could have come off in the impact. One report also stated that only one crash helmet was found at the scene. It is quite possible that, at 4am, not far from a popular nightclub, alchohol may have been involved too. However, nobody deserves to lose their life for an impulsive poor decision........... (I reckon that forum members could come up with some pretty dumb things that they did as youngsters that could have been fatal). My heart goes out to the families and friends of these two very unlucky young people.
In one of the other fatal accidents of the same weekend a 30 year old Harley rider in Perth died after losing both legs and an arm after hitting a power-pole at 1.30 am. Police believe high speed was involved. Yet another family in mourning.
So far, I haven't been seriously impressed with Road Safety Council's Professor Lampard's views on motorcycle safety. I have no idea if he is a rider or not. (his predecessor was an absolute wally, a football personality from wayback who would have us all riding at 20km/hr as that is a safe speed). Personally, I can't see the logic in riders wearing hi-glo vests. If car drivers can't see a f**king headlight then there's not much chance they will see a yellow vest either. I do agree to a great extent with one of the news-quoted South-West's instructors, Drew, who talks about "Attitude" as being a top contributor to accidents and personally, I reckon it's the biggest one!
I just had a look at the video of the guy in UK who died after hitting a car at around 152km/hr. I have no doubt he was a really nice guy but he was not a very smart rider if he couldn't forsee the possibility that an oncoming car just MIGHT turn in front of him.
My favourite saying is "better to be a live coward than a dead hero" ........ you can take this quote any way you want...... and it's worked for me......... so far!! (eg: better you break the law and live than stick to the law and die..... etc etc)
Let's hope we can keep our priorities right: 1 Woman/Family, 2 Bike, 3 Booze...................... oh shit............... now I've started something!!!!
