Headlamp Bulbs

I want to replace the standard yellow looking headlamp bulbs with some with some clearer/cleaner white (not blue) globes bioth for a better look and maybe also improved lighting for night riding (but mainly for looks). I know there is a HD replacement kit but that is upward of $300 and overkill for what I want to achieve.

I assume I need to replace both bulbs ?

Has anyone swapped theirs out ? would be interested in what replacement globes you used, where you got them, and price.

    Cheers

I just started looking at bulbs and headlights yesterday so advice would be good.
Firstly headlight size. If its a 7inch you seem to have more options, but the 5 3/4 (I think mine is) has less.

The Harley LED headlight (Daymaker) is a J W Speaker rebadged - fucking expensive. (doesn't fit mine)
Theres the Trucklite head lights, which look good, but aren't particulary cheap either. (doesn't fit mine)
There's a ton of cheapo LED headlights, but I've never heard anything good yet...

Now, if I'm to understand it correctly, anything above 6000k in bulbs starts to show blue - which is illegal in Vic?

For bulbs I've got H4s (standard bulbs), the H4s with the blue shit which (?) peels off after awhile anyway. If you're going the blue bulb way I'd check out something like DX.com.au - which are wayyyyyyyyyyy cheaper than local and if you read the reviews not much different.
There's also LED bulbs and HIDs. Neither (I'm told) are made for our headlights because of the way the refractors are setup so they will probably blind other drivers. And lots of the LED bulbs are apparently complete and utter shit (look good, but don't light the road) so I'm thinking maybe I should give up and strap a fucking flashlight to my head.

I was thinking about upgrading to HID.

    Whats anyones thoughts?

My headlight is adjusted a little high anyway, but at least I know I'm seen from both oncoming and in their mirrors.

Its worse with the missus on the back.

Nomada, as I said above standard lights aren't supposed to be made for HIDs becuase the beams don't flow right (so I'm told anyway) but I'm leaning towards that way too. That said, I'm told my headlight wont house the balist box (not enough room) so maybe I can't?

I have fitted a HID H4 globe I got off eBay ($25). As mentioned the beam is not like the original, but is a lot brighter. Also the ballist box is too big to fit in the headlight housing. I will be making the harness longer and mount it under the seat.

    Just a thought

Can one HID do both hi and low beams?

    Just remembered,

Chinashop had factory LED headlight and I think he was going to change back to a filament globe.

Not happy with the LED at all.
