Hey folks...A question for those that know...If you put 2" over extended forks on your bike does it lift the front end a full 2"...The reason I ask is that I put Switch Back wheels on my Wide Glide and now I have a few clearance issues, nothing major but do seem to scrape heaps more...I have read somewhere but can't remember where that 2" extensions only lift you 1" so if this is right I would need to order maybe 4" over to get better clearance...Hope this makes sense...
Cheers...Sparra
2 inch over tube won't lift by that much because of the rake of the frame. If you go to 4 inch over you will need a fork brace or it's going to ride like a piece of spagetti because of the extra length.
For a 2 inch fork extension, if its 30 degrees rake and top of fork tubes to axle is 750mm (rough guess at the length), then it will lift it 43mm (approx 1 3/4 inches) if the equivalent spring length for the longer tubes and same rate are used. Depends on the springs a lot, not just the longer tube. Stiffer springs compress less when cornering. All those cornering G forces have to go somewhere, the stock springs are a too soft to hold up such a heavy bike and the poor things sag like marshmellows when cornering. Maybe try better springs or a bit more preload (add a spacer) first. I put in Progressive springs, Intiminators and a fork brace, absolutely love the way it handles, no scrapes on the front any more, almost no brake dive, I hammer the F out of mine, treat it like I stole it when cornering, some others prefer straight rate springs. Last time my pegs touched when cornering was going over a speed bump ages ago. A bit wider front tyre might help too.
