I amgoing to have to get a new set of tyres fo my 2011 Road King. I am pretty keen to stick with the Pirelli Night Dragons as they have served me well. Does any of you blokes know if you can fit a 200mm tyre under the rear guards of a Road King?

With stock set up there is 30mm side clearance between the swingarm and rear 180 tyre sidewall , there is 5mm clearance between the final drive pulley and swingarm. This is on a 09 FLHT, but I imagine all the latest FL's with the upgraded swingarm are similar.

I would also imagine that this modification is possible as there would be enough clearance between swingarm and a 200 tyre, some engineering may be required for rear drive pulley to swingarm clearance, assuming that a new rear wheel will be installed to accommodate the tyre.

Now the clearance between rear guard and 180 tyre on the drive side on my 2009 FLHT is 15mm which I would think is NOT enough clearance for installation of a 200 tyre. I am sure that you would be able to purchase an aftermarket rear guard to suite and once again would require some engineering and then painting.

From experience the 200 tyres do not handle or get the mileage that the present 180's do, my 09 Softail with Dunlop 200 rear has averaged about 9,500 whilst my 09 FLHT gets about 18,000 miles, also a Dunlop rear. From memory the FLHT is about 70kg's heavier than the FXST and still gets a lot better milage.

    Food for thought!

    Cheers Paul

I have 13000 on them and they still have some meat left on them. They will probably see yhe summer out and then need to be changed.
