Just asking has anyone painted over chrome successfully ,googled it sounds like ya can with ease ,does it work,or powder coat,do it ya self ,

I've painted over chrome and it can be donw if you put the prep time in, having said that I'd powder coat over paint.

What parts are you looking at doing?

powdercoat as long as the chrome is good not lifting otherwise you will have to sand ,buff it off to the raw metal
just got some back a few days ago and its cheap to get done , I was looking at that new plastic dip paint they now do
but decided to stick with powdercoating its proven

I heard it is a lot cheaper to have the chromers remove chrome then it is to apply.
Personally i have taken to shit with the flap disc on an angle grinder because i am impatient it gets the job done pretty quick.

I have done it before by having the Chrome sandblasted first.
Give's the paint something to stick too !

Might want to start with the tank and guards first? I know that colour is called "Yellow Chrome"

I wouldn't touch that beautiful yellow

put flapper disc on grinder and grind/flap/buff etc back to bare metal. when you are happy with results (should take approx. 13.5 mins for sidestand) take sidestand to specialist chrome platers to verify all chrome has been removed. once confirmation from specialist has been received take to powder coater and instruct him to powder coat said sidestand BLACK.

I've had very good results sandblasting then powder coating. Black.... not yellow......

i have a 2006 softail and its black , the oil tank is black, but paint has came of along base of oil tank and its chrome , i guess harley started it LOL

yep done some more research apparently you can whip blast then powder coat
