Progressive vs Air shocks

Just installed Progressive 412 series (11inch) on my Street Bob. Looks great but destroyed my back. Way too bumpy and uncomfortable. I'm either putting the originals back on or installing the air suspension (probably legend D1).

Question: Is the air suspension on a dyna as smooth/comfortable as the standard suspension? And also if you lower it down 1 inch?

Depends on the brand of the air suspension.

I run Legend air suspension, it rides far better than stock and I have a lowered bike at the push of a button. I can set it soft or stiff depending on my riding.

At $1600 they were not cheap but i'm super pleased even after about 40,000km on them.

EDIT - The new version has adjustable dampening which in theory means you get a greater sweet spot than on the original D1s like mine.

Progressive shocks for the dynas have gone down hill last cuople of years as far as i can see, more and more reports of people not happy.

I bought a set of 422s back in 06, they were great. Bought a set of the 444s (which are supposed to be better again) about a year ago.
Fucked em off, they were shit.

My experience with air shocks is not good, wouldn't even bother with it.

Have a look at the ricors, thats what i have on and they great, also ohlins another good brand and yes as steve mentioned the YSS,s

I installed a set of Progressive 970 shocks, love them. Have had Ohlins, & Koni but the 970's are fantastic. Cost me $1000 Aus landed from Amazon. If you are looking for a true performance unit then l strongly recommend them.

I just had YSS in Adelaide do my front springs with progresssive and revalve and their V-302 rear shock custom built for my requirements.

Dropped the bike in on Sat, test ride on Monday, picked her up on Tue cost $1250.

Very happy with the whole set up.

Simular to these. Pre-load and rebound adjustment.

Has anyone had a go at fitting the Legend air shocks themselves? If so is it a guts ache?

As above I have been quoted $3k give or take for the Legend Aero-A for supply and fit. I can get a set landed here for about $1850 or about $2k including the pressure gauge. Don't think the kit inlcudes the gauge but could be wrong.

Have had the 970's fitted for about 18 months on the Fat Bob but still kills the missus back.

Went to trade my Buell on a Street Glide or Road Glide during the week but people seem to change the shocks on those as well.
