Setting up Streetbob '13 for pillion

    Hey guys.

a couple of things, I'm looking at mounting a sundowner touring seat, sissy bar and pillion pegs for my '13 Streetbob in denim black for those rides my wife is keen on. I have a few concerns:

    1. I hate the way the bob looks with a 2-up seat so I need to be able to quickly change seats and remove sissy bar when it's just me (which would be most of the time) so my question is, is this possible?

    2. Probably the most important I have heard that even with the HD seat mount bumper kit the pillion section of the seat rubs and damages the paintwork (particularly denim). Had anyone had this experience or any ideas on how to stop this from happening.

    3. Also any recommended sissy bar options

Sorry for all the questions. I really want to take my missus on some rides however I don't want to cause damage to my paintwork and be spending hours changing seats and sissy bars before and after so any suggestions would be appreciated

It takes me only a few minutes to swap the seat from one to two up now. After you've done it once or twice it's easy, the hardest part is picking the right socket. Best to write down how you did it (if you don't have instructions) because if you're like me you'll forget.

As for marks on the paint, mine came with them (damn it) so I stuck a couple of black rubber pads (cheap shops, some hardware stores etc - usually used for under furniture and whatnot) on the part wear it touches, which on my seat is just a couple of cms behind the one up seat.

    No recommendations on sissy bars.

I used the stock HD pilion seat but found the staples marked the rear guard.. here is what I have:

Mustang Solo and martching pillion pad... plus fendor bib. I also have quick release sissy bar. All up ot takes around 2 minutes to add the seat and sissy. I don't even remove the fendor bib.

I'm of fo a medical proceedure today, but PM me a phone number or email and I'll get some pics to you over the weekend if I'm capable

[re comments on rubber pads... place on pillion pad and not fendor as you don;t want them visitible without pad. Mustane have rubber feed to other seats.. awesome seats by the way]

It depends on the design of the seat.

I had a sidekick two up about two years ago and that sticky protective film from harley on the fender and it never marked the paint. Switched to a mustang solo and removed the clear film

But I have recently purchased a mustang additional pillion seat which has four rubber feet which I know will mark the paint so i'll probably get the protective film again.

I reckon the 2 piece setup is much better because I sit on the same seat regardless of solo or two up riding. It's even quicker to swap out than going from a single to a 1 piece two up seat as well.

Have you got the dual seat rego insurance covered. Have an accident without it...no medical cover and possible jail time.

I think you will find the solo is for QLD only. They get cheaper rego if their bikes are single rider use.

I also swap from single to two up seat whenever the missus wants to come. i have a mustang vintage touring and love it. Also the Harley detachable sissy bar goes on and off in a few seconds and looks fine. Not the cheapest option but a good option if you are changing between single and two up form.

Yep. I'm not sure about other states, but my rego is about $450 a year two-up, or $250 if solo seat attached and passenger pegs removed.

Sponge90 - check out images of the Street Bob Special (FXDBB) with the drag bars. I have got this and standard it comes with a Sundowner two up seat. Very comfortable riding position......

Thanks  guys for all of the awesome info. Turns out my missus isnt able to be on the bike for a little while so i wont be setting it up properly for her anytime soon but this is the stuff I came across in my findings. I did some very basic modding on the underside of my sundowner seat to ensure no damage to the paintwork. There are two nasty staple that are covered by basic furniture felts I got from bunnings to minimise any excessive contact between seat and fender. I also need to pick up an additional retention washer and nut (shown in photo) as i dont like the idea of switching it from solo position to 2up each time as it is a pain in the ass to do (using a cable to is very useful however when removing the washer so the nut doesn't just drop on your rear tyre and disappear).

I have moved onto making the bike a bit more comfortable for me on the longer hauls so i am sussing out highway peg options. Any suggesstions would be appreciated and thanks again for the awesome info!

I bought a 2013 Fatbob seat for my street bob. It's so low profile, looks wise, that i just left it on, and don't bother with the solo seat changes.

I have covered the rear fender in a 3M film, which mimics the shape of the pillion section of the dual seat, and protects the paint well. Unfortunately the 3M is a satin finish, so it sticks out like dog's balls, if I ran the solo seat. I believe there is a clearer 3M film that, if applied by a professional, becomes practically invisible.

My '03 Fatboy came with a similar film installed from HD, but that yellowed and you still coudn;t take off the pillion section of the seat and have it look good.
