Wide Glide Surge ??

    Hi All,

I have a new 2014 Wide Glide that now has 500 Km on the dial.

It is completely stock at this point except I asked the dealer to program the ECU so that the Cable operated Exhaust Pipe Valve is open at all times.

From the day I road the bike home to current day,  I notice that at steady speed, typically arounf 70 Kph, the bike surges.

Is this a characteristic of the beast or have I found a problem or.....   because I have the Exhaust Valve Open, is this root cause??

Yep,..sounds like the same problem i have with mine but  i have a SE big sucker with the V&H Big Rad's fitted. When i had it in for the first service i spoke to the service department about it... they hooked it up but no error report came up,...they said a Dyno Tune would fix it???

Forgot to add,..i first noticed it the moment i pulled out of a servo from filling up. I only ever use BP 98 Oct but this time i couldnt and had to use a lower Octane ....so thought it may have been related to that. Next tank i filled up again with 98, and it may of been just a coincidence be the surging did stop for a while.... but did reoccure again?

    G'Day Braddock,

Yea, I will only use 98 (BP). That was one thought when I rode it our of the dealership, thinking they had put a low grade fuel in it, but I have had a few tanks of 98 in it and no change.
I have a set of RUSH Slip-On coming over from the States so once I get that (next Wednesday) I put the Mufflers on, put a Stage-1 K&N Air Filter then remap using my TTS MasterTune kit and hopefully I can tune it out.

Did the Dyno run sort things out for you??

As i'm not quite due for the 2nd service yet i'm holding off for the Dyno and will get it all done at the same time, i also wanted to wait till i had a few K's on the clock and will replace all three holes with Amsoil at the time of service.

If your doing the Tune youself you'll get it done before me so be sure too let me know how you get on .

Besides that how you finding your new ride?

    Cheers,

    Braddock.

Yea Braddock, the WG is just awesome to ride.

The last bike was a 2013 883 Iron Sportster which I bought last December. I put a set of S&S Race Pipes on it and the K&N Air Charger. This is when I was introduced to the TTS Master Tune kit and over the months developed my own fuel/timing maps. The thing went like a rocket - great bike in the hills and I wish I still had it just for those times.

When I got the Sportie I joined HOG and we pretty well ride every second weekend. A lot of the riding is done on highways where the Sportie struggles. I was noticing that at Cruise speeds the big Dyna's and Softails were just plodding along while I was flapping off the handlebars of the Iron just trying to keep up.

We have the National Rally in Tamworth early 2015 and travelling there on a Sportster did paint a good picture - so I needed to do something about it.

When down the dealer and looked at all models and the only one I really liked the appearance of was the Wide Glide - few weeks later, here we are.

It very much demands respect with the added weight but I am sure it will be just a matter of time before I get over that. I am 173cm tall and weigh in at 100Kg so I am not tiny. :-)

I want it looking a stocker so I will retain the Air Cleaner Shell but put a K&N behind it. I have a set of Rush mufflers coming over which should land here next Wednesday, so next Saturday will be spent fitting then doing a few Datalogger runs to develop a new Fuel Map.

    Looking forward to it.

Well...... Today I fitted the Screaming Eagle Stage I Air Cleaner and remapped the ECU with my TTS Interface and no more surging.
Tell ya what, the stock Air Filter element is tiny !!
