I would suggest the V-Rod Muscle

I found it better than the Night rod as it would lean into the corners without having to pull it over

Makes no difference to me,I am quite happy to poke along at 100k's all day long so handling is not a big issue...That's probably why I ride 95% of the time by myself....

the XR1200 is the most Jap like, 666 on here has one and I have ridden it. Rich used to have an iron and the XR would leave it for dead. I have a 2014 Street Glide and when things get a bit quick in the twisties the XR pulls away.

Might have a low klm XR1200X for sale soon. Easily the best handling recent Harley. Shame they ceased production.

I know there not considered Harley`s anymore but what about the Sportster powered Buell's .

China that depends on who is riding it. On my FLSTC I could Keep up with Rich on his mdified Iron but the XR is totally different. I reckon once I get the suspension sorted he won't get away from me much. But back on topic either the XR or a Buell.

they are definitely good but you still need to remember you are riding a 350kg motorbike and that weight is noticeable when you start to push things a bit. I guess its horses for courses but I get as much satisfaction pushing my heavy SG and former Heritage as I did my Diavel. The thing is with big Harleys its much more of a challenge to ride them fast through the twisties and very satisfying. Buy whatever rocks your boat, bit like choosing a woman, you will know when you see her.

I'm sure if Rossi or Stoner road a Harley at full charge in the twisties they would probably be faster than half the street guys riding their latest sports bikes.

It might be a bigger percentage than that I'd imagine...

Doohan, Gardner, Beattie, and I believe Rossi, all owned Harleys at some point. Probably still do.

An interesting question thats not always simple to answer I reckon.

Having just bought my first HD I went through similar thoughts. I decided a number of things starting out - what type of riding I would be doing, expectations of a cruiser rider versus 'sportier' approach and how I felt on the bike - which I think is real important to me - I ride better when comfortable. I ended up riding quite a number of HD's before I decided. Started on a Fatbob (told it was the best handling dyna) and ended up buying a Fatboy Lo - softies just felt great to me. I think you kinda know when you get on the right one. Of course its a bit of a 'heart' thing too about what you like the look of too!

Good luck finding out, getting the 'best handling' for you might mean trying a lot of bikes. Great thing about HD Dealers is they usually have lots to test ride!

Yes like mentioned before, if your looking for a great handling bike which is like a Japanese bike well you should stick with your Japanese bikes.

I have had sportbikes and they were great had lots of power straight off the showroom floor for not a lot of money, also handled well and all had excellent brakes.

Have a 2010 Fatboy Lo which I purchased new, it is way different from any Japanese bikes, it really doesn't handle well and it surely doesn't brake well, but it certainly has a certain buzz about it when I ride it.

Harley's you need to spend big  bucks to get them going, but I would rather keep the engine standard as I don't trust it at high speeds, its a cruiser and that is what it is intended to be.

One bike doesn't cut it you, you need a few bikes so you can have various riding styles to suit your mood for each day.

Hope you find what your looking for :-)

Ok , heres the scenario ,,, You on the Ocean Road , you know the police are every where , just waiting to take your money and your liscence , So you set of in porche , or a sportsbike and sit on 80 klm sped limit from Wo to go,, Most signs are posted at 50 klm , Just saying ,, But you don't slow just sit on the speed limit . of 80 klm

Next day you set of on the same trip , only , this time the familly 4 w d instead of the Porche , the Heritage softail instead of the sportsbike ,, at the end , which two are the most exhilarating , and demanding , and the more fun .

    I REST MY CASE

I guess what i am saying is I don't want to struggle to control the bike riding from point A to point B, arriving exhausted.
No i don't want to ride it like casey stoner, just average speed.
I like the idea of a low revving engine with plenty of torque, in some ways like my turbo diesel car, - there is massive torque at just 2000rpm.

Looks likepretty much anything you like the look of then I'd reckon, Go directly to the showroom drop some cash and away ya go.

You're right too Boxa, Always more fun riding a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow.
