Got done for speeding on east link in Melb today shit happens .

he gets out asks me why I was speeding, my reply ,not going to answer that.

he then proceeds to defect my bike for blinkers not on the back guard something mumbled about my mirriors and my number plate was not within 45 degrees of swing arm ,when questioned on this he says it's now not ADR compliment.

This shits me as I was not a smart arse but was not going to admit guilt.

so where can I find the relative information on the motorcycle requirements for a roadworthy as when I google it it is very vague in Victoria .

This shit pisses me offffffffff. Easy to see why these guys get little respect as we get penalised more heavily for this stuff than more serious shit

    rant over

    thanks

If you've modified your bike to not comply to ADR's then swallow up the consequences. They're just doing their job, and you're providing the reason to act. Simple...

In amongst my rant I did ask if any one could direct me to the relevant ADR information so I can verify what is wrong ,as he gave me nothing.

    thanks

The ADR are found at  http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/motor/design/index.aspx
Google "australian vehicle standards rules 1999 victoria" the first response should be a PDF doc.

see how you go with them first.

I think you've got to look at them case-by-case. Last time I got done was for slowing down, but not stopping for a stop sign. There was nobody coming the other way, but the copper was parked their in waiting, picking people off all arvo. I was cooperative and good natured, and he just threw the book at me with an arseholes attitude to boot. Time before that I got pulled over for speeding, was well mannered and cooperative, and got let off with a warning.
It's just the luck of the draw sometimes. Best bet is just do the right thing and it won't be an issue.

there is always "SUCK IT UP" you don't follow the rules, pay up.

Revenue raising is bullshit like medicare levy, emergency service levy, gun buyback levy, water levy, speed cameras.
3 differant tax on petrol. OK maybe not medicare

the easy part of the police role is traffic, that is the offense is right in their face, easy to catch a speedster, not STOP at a STOP sign or defect a vehicle when its done in front of them.

It's going to get interesting when they introduce driver-less cars, controlled by computers they'll never speed,
where will they then raise their revenue, not to mention if you aren't driving the car do you still need a license?

The money raised does not all go to roads, safety or road maintenance.  It goes into general revenue to be dolled out as the govt. sees fit.  just like the fire levey.  if anyone really thinks 100% of the levey is going to the fire services they are gullible indeed.

The old addage, do the crime do the time, you speed its your fault and so on is just soft cock bullshit.  East Link is a bloody fine road and doing 110-115 on it if its not peak hour is bloody safe I think.  I would rather see a guy on his bike doing 110 then some stupid bitch doing 95 while putting on make up, but who gets the fine?  110 on a freeway is better than 70 down a quiet suburban street with families living on it.  Don't see cops enforcing that one.

The police push speed kills because it is an easy way to raise money.  The upper echelon of VicPol have NO fuckin road sense and NO fuckin clue as to what is really going on out there.  They can write speed kills on a pineapple and shove it up their arses.

Oh, and as far as sitting at a stop sign, thats getting the quota up.  yes the police have a quota, its not called that, but the bottom line is if your TMU and you don't get the tickets, its no V8 for you its driving a desk for a while.

    fuck 'em

I feel ya pain , nothing worse than getting pinched for whatever reason it sux big time . Don't take it personally and remember if you speed ,break the road rules and ride a non compliant bike it's just a matter of time before they book you. The minute you give the coppers attitude your fucked. I usually start out '' officer i hope your in a good mood because i haven't got many points left..''

Just to make it clear , the attitude started as soon as he got out of the car , I give respect to those who show it and did not dispute or argue the point.
But I was not going to admit guilt, when I was coming up to the car on the road he had already partially entered the road and I had to move across the lane as I thought he was pulling out in front of me.
I accept the speeding but the rest is nothing more than attitude and revenue raising.
Hope this clears a few things up for some people

mate...I would double check some of the things he pinged you for as I think they are bogus. I do not recall reading in the ADRs that blinkers had to be attached to the guards...(there are specs there about the height and distance apart and colour). The 45 degrees from the swingarm is also bollocks...its 45 degrees from the rear of the vechicle (and i think that side mounted plates fail this test every time).

Are you sure it was blinkers and not the reflective strip - that gets a lot of folks in trouble...I added a small reflective strip 10cm x 1cm to the bottom of my license plate bracket to cover off this rule...
