How do I measure drive belt deflection on a ROCKER?

I'll open this subject up here as well. Adjusting my drive belt and manual says 11/16-3/4 in,my bikes jacked up,wheel raised. Where on a "ROCKER" do they measure to get that reading? The bloke at the bike shop yrs ago, grabbed the belt at the bottom,(Where the tension gauge is used, which I have) and said "if you cant twist the belt 90deg,its good" I thought that was a bit how ya goin!! I understand the tool and how it works, but exactly do I put a ruler. A "point A to point B" exact area is what I need. I can ring a shop, any fucking shop, tomorrow, but now would be cool....

iv'e allways used the 2 finger lift method on belts' don't know anyone who uses a tool like that, perhaps an American forum.

Yeah, know what you mean bob. I just would like to know how to do it "the book" way. Then after a while, just the 2 finger way will do.But until then,I wanna be sure. To be sure to be sure!!!! :)

    hi,

i got that tool philthy, very handy

    this what i found:

Check your tension at the top of the belt on a Softail.

There should be two O rings on the barrel of your tension gauge. Adjust the top one on the gauge to correspond with a reference point on the bike when the gauge is in position on the belt. Now set the bottom one the amount of deflection you want away from the top one. 3/8" should be about right. Push on the gauge on the belt so that the gauge moves from the top O ring to the bottom O ring in relation to the the reference point. When you have the belt tension to the point that the gauge moves from the top O ring to the bottom O ring with 10 lbs of pressure you are where you want to be.

If this doesn't make sense, I will post a picture of what I am talking about. Let me know if you need it.

    Regards,

    Bill

midway between front and rear pulley, like as in figure 1 on the illistration you posted.

not sure about yours, but some bikes have a little window in the lower belt guard that has gradient lines on it

Any standard belt deflection is done at mid point between pullies.
