Could someone please help. I've done a major stuffup on my 09mscle. Now I know a lot of people are gonna shake their head but none more than me. I put a set of night rod bars and risers on but no way were the wiring plugs coming through them shit muscle bars so I stupidly cut the wires from both controls to get them through thinking that I could rejoin them like on the old bikes. Well everything works again except blinkers and seems like no power getting to starter. fuses seem to be fine but I really not sure what to look at next so some ideas would be great and yes I feel like a real fuckin idiot.

how did you join the wires back up mate? solder, twitching together? how many wires did you have to cut and re-join? this is your first post on the forum so give a bit of an introduction of yourself and more details of the issue and somebody might be able to help

What beaglebasher said, plus put some pics up give us an idea on what you have done.

Did you insulate all the joins after you soldered them, any wiring with no insulation would earth out on any metal it's touching.

apologies for not getting back. My name is geoff from Qld. I have been riding for many many years and doing my own work but this is the first modern technology bike I have owned. Anyway I cut both wiring left and right side of bars. one has 6 wires (right) the other  has 8 (left). At first I reconnected with bullets which ended up huge and under advise got rid of them and twisted the joins and individually insulated each join. No contact was made with metal or wires crossing at any time however when I put the main use back in and turned on the ignition the alarm sounded for 30 secs then stopped so I the removed the security fuse. Everything was then working except blinkers and starter. I have a manual but am not sure on checking the ECI etc. the fuses are not blown and my thoughts are a fus would blow before the solinoid etc. The shop here would only suggest to take it to them at $120 an hour so that is a final option.

it sounds like you have opened a bag of worms there g but I am no sparky. I would think if you twisted the wires together the connection will not be 100%. my bike is a 2002 model with no alarm but if I was doing that job I would solder the wires properly because the computer needs to know exactly whats going on. if your connection isn't 100% weird stuff can happen.

The plan would be to get some heatshrink, and rejoin all the wiring by soldering.
You need to make absolutely sure you haven't cross wired anything.
If you're not really up with wiring (as it appears !), trust me and take the easy way out and find a good Auto Elec'.

Hi gcase as the above comments have mentioned, it looks to be a resistance/insulation or cross wire issue. Sounds like you are a long way from repair so just count your losses mate and take speedzters advice and go to an auto electrician. Best of luck.

thanks to everyone for all the input. I tried the disarm code and that did nothing so I spoke with a mobile bike mechanic/electrician and he feels that if I did something wrong with the blinkers that will in turn deactivate the starter. He's booked in for Tuesday. Will post next week what I fucked up.

gday guys. Well I found out why the fuck I couldn't get my muscle goin. It would appear that I did do everything right (thought so) but in future if any dumb shit like me asks the same questions I did, my recommendations would be to tell them to make sure that they put the new batteries in their fobs THE RIGHT FUCKING WAY UP. Yep that was all it was. Once I did that she fired up and purred like a v-rod. Now I do feel stupid. Got lots of splinters under my finger nails from scratching my head so much so have a good laugh everyone cause I sure did.

The old fob battery upside down trick !!!! I must say, the markings showing which way up on the battery are quite small. That's the only leeway I'm goin to give you !!!!

I bet you will sleep like a kitten tonight !!! Good on ya mate !!!!

yeah I could understand this maybe happening but the worst part of it was (and I shouldn't admit this but lets keep the laughter happening) I got 2 fobs and changed the batteries at the same time. One right and the other not so much.

Next time a Muscle owner wants to bring the bars back just order Budman risers from the states. I fitted the riser in about 45 mins and all the wiring hoses and cables stay in place. brings the bars back a good 2.5 inches, brilliant block of alloy. Thats if the exercise was to bring the bars back and not just because you perfer the look of the night rod bars.
