Air suspension or Lowered Softail experiences

I want to lower my breakout, I am struggling to justify the 1500 plus for Airbags.

I have read some things that say lowering bolts are fine, then others say it'll be the biggest mistake you will ever make.

Then there are the progressive lowered shocks with or with out RAP

Just after some peoples own experiences and thoughts

try the bolts, cheaper if you don't like it, as for lowered bike I'm 118kg and my bike is ok, think it depends on the quality of your shocks.

I put the lowering bolts in my rocker lost a lot of travel makes for a harsher ride .

I`ve got the Progressive`s with RAP on 08 Softail and are definitely better than stock ... I also went with the Progressive Mono Tube`s fronts so the all round improvement was noticeable but did them both at the same time so can`t really say how much better the rears were on their own .

From memory the Mono Tube Fronts weren't that dear ... yours being a breakout though should be pretty dam near new so it is always hard to justify pulling out gear that isn't worn out but then that is the Disease we Harley riders seem to be afflicted with , spending money on our pride and joys even if we don't have to , Lol .

    Good Luck .

I lowered my Crossbones using the extended shock bolts, sat where I wanted, rode terribly!! I'm 100kg, 3 adjustments later it rides acceptably.... Not awesome and average 2 up. The guard sits approx 1/2" above the rim. (17" rear)

I like the lowered look, but for me it just wouldn't be practical. I've ground away too much of my primary case as it is, and don't ask about the pipe clamps....and I ride an old custom softail with stock suspension.

I guess you know what you want, but if it was me I'd go for something I could adjust on the fly otherwise cornering would start to get annoying.

Ucmitch ... I could have gone as low as a little over 2 inches but decided to stick with about a 1 & 1/4 to 1 & 1/2 ... still gives it a little travel and although I haven't` had a lot of other Harleys to compare it with I have to say it still rides pretty smooth .

When you take into account I am in the 140 Kg area and I double the Missus quite often I have to admit to not having bottomed out all that often ... there are always those pot holes that even the best suspension is going to hit bottom with but over all pretty dam good .

Can`t say how much it made a difference but the Mustang seat I put on is WAY better than one of those Bad lander things I had on after first buying it .

I`m still at the point of not even have using the R emote A djustment P reload yet ... got about 12,000 k`s on the shocks so far .
