A little late on this one but......Metzeler every time as I had some really bad issues with Michelin. Could have been the bike set up but I still cannot bring myself to try them again.

fck Keith, 19,000 km's,  haven't got that km's out of TWO sets of tyres.
    last tyre 8,000 km's D 407, and 6,900 km's Pirelli ND.
was going to try the Michelin II, but all sold out, put on a Metzler 880, $330 fitted.
    200/55-17 on the Springer

Back on Dunlop's 407s now Ralphi, about the norm, got a little better from the Metzys,70,000kms on the bike now and this set is the 5th from new. Won't mention the s#it roads in SA to chop into tyre life ? If I got 8000 out of a set I be crying in my beer also !

Just put on a set of metzler 888 ultras on me 16 low rider ,,, the worst crap i ever had on ,,,,  very dangerous in wet , hard as rocks and very skatey on dry ,   gunna dump em soon as i get a new set , had night dragons , ok but lookin for something better , but as with hd s lacking behind the times , no 17 fronts , so all the good tyres are not available for hd s  ,

I have just found a new tyre out i am lookin at trying , Avon storm 3d xm    , they have just released a 100/80/19  ...

this tyre is for the big sports tourers ,, hyabusa , zx14 , bmw , they all have 17s front .

anyone run a set of these .

only concern is me low rider front is 100/90/19 ,,, avon is 110/80/19  , 2 mm larger od , will this affect abs

ps , i only ride in the hills and twisty stuff ,,,, hate straight highways

just chiming in to say consider Shinko.

had Dunlops, then Michelins, then Metzelers, and am now running a Shinko rear. EASILY the best tyre i've had on the bike in every aspect i can think of. and the metzelers are probably the worst i've had on the bike.

as soon as my front wears down a bit more i'll be swapping that out for a Shinko too.

ea have heard good reports about the shinkos , dont know sticky they are ,

any how i gunna take punt on those avon storm 3d xm , if they recomened for hyabusa an zx14 s they must be ok , they have only just released the 19 inch fronts , so maybe some one from hd has whispered to them , but would be good if hd did a 17 inch front rim , then we would have a good choise of sticky tyres

That's the thing with tyres 10 different blokes will give you ten different answers. I change my own tyres and had Metz 880 on twice and never felt uncomfortable or felt slippage even in the wet. Changed to mich commander 2 because I wanted longer wear and a few times I have felt a little uneasy. The other day in the wet I took off from the lights and the back started fishtailing, eased off and changed to second and gave it a bit of stick and more fishtailing. The Metz would have held on. Also the Mich were tight as a nuns you know what to fit, but it was in the winter

the avon storms not avail able for a few weeks so put on michelin pilot 4 s , changed the bikes handiling , just falls into the corners and so nimble and sure footed especaly in rough corners , just feels like you could scrape the handle bars , and the harder ya get into the twisty stuff the better they get , havent been in the wet yet ,,,,  these tyres are so good the bike doesnt like goin straight
