Are you able to post the dyno sheet?

As long as it rides well and smooth the numbers don't matter too much. Incidentally what other cam options had you considered?

hi , do you have restrictive ehausts on bike still , they  produce power early and fall over early no matter what the cubs , i agree with hilly as the s/s cams , if 583 , not performance items ,static compression dictates what cams you can use, if your happy , then all good , cheers

Hi, I was a bit disappointed with the, hp numbers myself. But the mechanic pointed out to me that the figures were taken on am corrected basis, dunno, it's gobbledygook  to me. Basically what he said was that if it was a dyno jet, (I think), dyno it would be reading 97 hp at the same levels.

All I know is that it runs sweet and when I pull out from behind a slow moving 4b doing 80 km/h I'm doing 130 by the time I'm level with the front of them. Which is all I was after, not top - end numbers, mid range, ie, overtaking power, got lots of that , and more power throughout the rev range, very happy.

she still purrs along at low throttle levels, doesn't cough or splutter at all in a constant throttle setting or on decel.

Dude that's pretty good for corrected figures. Think of it as an international standard. When the motor industry as we Know it know it now developed it grew from the states, namely Detroit. They developed the whole idea of dynamic (in motion) testing. Henceforth we have dyno tuning. Problem is as the technology spread around the globe local variants come into effect. There are many variable factors to consider when tuning, ambient temp, altitude, humidity etc. For example you could dyno on a cold wet day and again on a hot dry day and get totally different figures. Which is why they state this info on your spec sheet. Anyway I digress, put simply corrected figures are adjusted to give you reference to any one else in the world any where, that has also had corrected figures and give you a true comparison.

I know this is probably going to be a hard question to answer but in lay mans terms how does the tuner come at " corrected figures" ...

Neale the main thing is that your rapt with the out come ... just trying to work out certain figures ... maybe from some more of the enlightened members here ... I have a standard bottom end ... standard 96 cube 08 Softail with 583`s , pipes , air cleaner and a Power Commander 5 and mine is producing 85Hp and 100 ft/lb torque .

I saw where Neale has said his tuner told him it would be up around 97 Hp which sounds more like it to me ... so was curious to where the different figures come from .

Another reason for asking is that I should have said I used to have that set up as I have just recently gone to a S & S 106 Barrel and Pistons ... S & S 79cc Heads ... 585 Gear Drive Cams ... the 583`s were chain drive ... Fuelling Lifters ... and adjustable pushrods and of course the PC 5 ... I`d be pretty pissed off if it only got in the 80`s after having it Dynoed .

With the 583`s I definitely agree with you Neale , they were great down low and slightly into the mid range but had nothing up top which is where I am chasing ... the 585`s are supposed to come in at around 3000 and top out just over the 6000 mark ... my builder seems to think there shouldn`t be any problems getting up around the 110 to 115 Hp .

Anyhow as said above is there a Lay mans terms explanation to the big difference in Numbers ... thanks folks , and congrats Neale .

    Tim .

Hi Ozy , how`s your beast going ... I never did get around to meeting up with you after you gave me some good advice some time back ... should tee up a Sat morning some time and meet up down at Freds ... you still getting down there for your Dyno work .

Were you inquiring about the figures of my new lot of work or Neale`s figures , or just interested in what others explanations are going to be ... haven`t got Fred to do mine yet as it is still a fresh motor and want to get a few K`s on her first .

Tim mine has been in the shed for a while, slight issue with my hand being wrapped up at the moment.
Just interested in what some feel about the various correction factors. Numbers mean little to me, more interested in how it rides. And we always have the "my mates dyno is stingy" and " oh thats a happy dyno" Just ask the guy if it's been calibrated then you'l know whats what.
Had been at Freds a lot up till the injury.

Sorry Neal, back on topic. Nice result that your happy with the outcome.

Sorry to hear about the hand issue Ozy , hope it get better soon for ya .

While I totally agree it should always be about the ride factor when it comes to getting upgrades it can't hurt to know the best is being got out of one`s motor combination .

Hope you get back out on the road soon ... and Neale have fun over taking those slow buggers out on the roads , it`s a nice feeling to have that punch when you need it .

    Cheers .

A piece of paper with lines and numbers on it is just that. If it puts a big old smile on yer face and makes ya froth at the mouth like a madman that's what counts.

It's not just about the lines and numbers, it's about knowing its running at its absolute best.
I thought mine was running ok but the dyno found it was rich down low and lean up high, as well as getting a nice increase in those number thingy's. that will also make you smile. All good cheers

Nah man i'm not dissing good tuning, specially as running to lean can be detrimental. But we tend to place to much on what that piece of paper indicates. All im sayin is if it feels good and rides well then it must be so.

Hey neale , take it to sydney dragway one wednesday night, see what trap speed is, thats the best dyno no question.

the TQ looks ok & that's what you mostly feel, as TQ thrusts you forward not HP that just gives you speed.

    enjoy it.
