Front End Rattle

    G'Day,

Recently, I've noticed a deep rattle/clunk somewhere in my front end each time I hit a bump.

I know this sounds like a stupid point, but she (Street Bob) used to be whisper quiet - regardless of what I threw at her.
Now she clunks around like an old Holden.

I've snooped around and can't find anything loose/wobbly/clunky (highly technical terms)

    Anyone else had this problem?
Even better - anyone know how to fix it?

Hi Simo, I have the same problem. If you go through past posts you'll others have the problem and some of the solutions. I am starting with oil this weekend.

    Cheers mate.
I actually met a bloke today who told me to check the petrol tank and... looks like it might be the problem.
Here I am, worried about the little things, when it's the bloody petrol tank all along!

Anyway, I'm gonna tighten her up over the weekend - will let you know how it goes.

Simo, good news!! I still think the font forks aren't what they should be, I'll post the result after I work on mine.

I found mine was loose as shit in the front end, that nut that holds the tension on the bearings was loose.
I pulled it all apart and cleaned and repacked the bearings with white lithium grease and put it back together with enough tension so that the steering stem falls away on one side in but doesn't fall away on the right side, took it for a ride no clunk.
What that says to me is the roller bearing cups (races) are out of alignment with each other because you shoud be able to have those bearings tight and still have fallaway.
Inferior engineering bad design and crap build quality.

I feel dumb as all hell - but sure enough: it was the bloody tank.
Tightened it up and the clunk's gone.

Now I just have to figure out what every other odd noise is coming from the Hog.

Yeah glad it was an easy clunk to fix.
I still have a clunk in the forks I can't work out among other rattles and noises.
