thinking of upgrading to progresive 944 shocks and wondering what my standard shocks would be worth, less than 10k use.

thanks Paul that's sort of what I was thinking. If I get them I'll list them here first before ebay.

depends on a few things I guess, how heavy you are do you take a pillion often and do you carry much stuff. I am going for standard duty as most of the time it's only me with little luggage and with all my gear on I weigh no more than 80kgs.

there are a set of almost new 994's on ebay at the moment that I very nearly bought. As no one on here has had any experience with them I looked at the US Harley forum. After reading everything I could find on them I decided not to buy them. I am only 80kgs fully kitted out in my gear and they seem to be still too stiff for anyone around this weight, from what I can gather is if you are over 100kgs they should be okay but still not great. I am going to look at YSS, Ohlins or Wilbers as they all make good quality shocks that work well. I am after a comfortable non harsh ride without wallowing, I will let you all know once I have chosen something and what I think of them.

I wouldn't mind trying new rear shocks. I don't want to lower the bike or anything. Does anyone know the std rear shock height on a 2014 Ultra Ltd? Is it 13"???

pretty sure its 13, only the SG comes with 12's. Hi Paul unfortunately money is always a factor. I am not wanting to spend anymore than $1k on a pair. I had Ohlins front and rear on the Diavel and couldn't get it soft enough either. Justin from Steel Horse recommend the YSS shocks and he said they have far more movement than the progressives. I will be finding out some more next week and hopefully my tax will pay for most of them.

thanks Tim, I did see his name mentioned on the US forum. The YSS and Wilbers also get custom setup for your weight and preferences. The main reason for getting local ones is if there is a problem it will be much easier to sort out. To me getting the suspension sorted out is the first priority and later on I will probably look at getting some power from the engine, ie bigger lift cams and dyno tune. I will also get a price on sorting out the front forks. What I am chasing is a nice comfortable ride without any harshness and no wallowing. Simply put I just want suspension that actually works like it should, got me fcuked why Harley cant get it right still, wtf. Shouldn't have to spend $2000 plus on a $34k bike just to get it right, sorry rant over.

    Steve,

I have a RK 2014 and recently installed 944 Heavy duty, they are 13" but lower the bike to 12". Which is not noticeable. I weigh 120kg and I think I over did it in that I can not get the bike to sag within the limits that are prescribed by Progressive. As I tend to ride solo most of the time I am hoping that they will sag with time. If I rode with a trailer \ pillion or both it would be perfect.

The ride is still a little hard, not a soft plush ride, and I have adjusted the shocks 1 & 3/4 turns from their softest setting. In saying that the shocks are light years ahead of the stock set up. (Don't get me started :) and the roads we have here in Central QLD are not the best, as they give any suspension a work out. So one day if I get to a decent road I might change my mind. If I was to do it again I would get the 944 without the Heavy Duty springs.

    Cheers

Thanks Crouser, I am pretty sure I am going to go with the YSS shocks after talking with a few people.

I can only dream of floating over bumps instead of bouncing off them lol. Fancy having suspension that actually works, what a novel idea :-).

Its funny but i hated my air shocks, to me the spring shock is the way to go but again its personal preference.

Interesting, I have the 2012 RK and I put the gold valves and progressive springs in the forks and have been considering putting the 444 progressives in the rear also been tossing up on whether to use the heavy duty or standard although the air has been ok so far. I don't mind the firmer ride as I do 50/50 two up and solo so I adjust the air regularly. Maybe I will wait until the air suspension gets older.

just ordered the YSS shocks and getting Justin from Steel Horse to set them up for me. It will probably take a couple of weeks to get done as the shocks are custom made and Justin is also flat out. I will be selling the standard shocks one they are fitted. They have done about 10000ks and have adjustable preload. These are probably good for heavier riders, if interested let me know.

I'm keen to see how you go with these shocks as well. I actually rang YSS yesterday and had a chat to him about 13" rear shocks for my '08 Street Glide. I was going to look at Ohlins but if these are as good and easier to get I'm happy to get these. He also suggested for me to remove my Race Tech constant rate front springs and install progressive rate to make it a more comfier ride.

mine are also 13" shocks but with the right sag setup will sit the same as the 12's when I am on it. I picked them up yesterday but probably won't get to fit them until Saturday. Progressive fronts will be softer as they are designed to be softer and firm up the more they are compressed.
