I just changed my stock 13"  shocks with 11" Progressive 412 shocks, on my 2013 Iron 883. The thing is i had to turn the adjuster on the

spring all the way hard to stop the bike from bottoming out. Cant see where its hitting though, its not under the guard, does the swingarm

have something stopping it from moving too far up? I weigh 85 kilos so with the spring adjusted hard it stopped bottoming out but would if i

hit a big bump, just wondering if anyone else has done this, will it stuff something or is it cool to ride it like this.

    Thanks in advance.

Doesn't the piston on the shock just reach the end of it's travel?

With 11 inch shocks, the internal bump stops inside the shocks should hit first. It is pretty harsh when they do, and you feel it! Winding the preload all the way up as you have doen is the way to go. TC

This is the cause of an improper rear shocker for your weight (standard for progressive) i use 11" Ikon shockers on my bike, it has a spring rate for my weight, on its lowest setting it will only bottom out over the hardest bumps, on 2 i've ever bottomed out, and 3 when i have a pillion, all with a fantastic ride that dosnt bash you. Getting the correct spring rate front and rear is very important (along with many other suspension settings), it is possible to have a low bike without it riding like a rigid...

lmao my licks 10 inchers don't even move and I weigh 92kg with them on the softest preload.

    RIP kidneys and back.

    Looks sick slammed though.

If you are unable to order a shocker/spring that is for your weight then your buying crap that will be wrong. How many companies have asked for your weight when ordering fork springs/rear shockers? Not many that do. I dont understand why you would want to fit something to a 2 wheeled machine that makes it handle worse (death trap). You can have it low, and you can have a nice ride, you just need the right parts.

yeah i was just surprised how little travel there is with the 11" shocks, theres not alot to play around with, so a hard setting will have to do, just looks so much better know.

    Thanks for the replies.smiley

    Hey guys.

Just bought an 2014 Iron. Loving it!!

So I'm thinking of slamming it as well, hence reading this thread. Was looking at the Progressive Shocks (like most of you).

I'm only a small guy. 5'5 and weigh about 65kgs. I like the look of a slammed bike plus I wanna have more of my foot on the ground. Few things:

    a) Would the 11inch 412 Progressive Shock be alright?

    b) Can I just do the rear shocks? (Without having to do the front)

    c) Should I buy online from US and just get Peter Stevens Ringwood to fit?

Thanks. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm your height and a touch lighter. The worst thing you could do is fit those progressive shockers, and anything you can buy from Harley will not improve your bike at all. I have a proven setup that will not only lower the bike but drastically improve the ride quality!
If your in melbourne give me a buzz to discuss further.
