    Hello from a Newbe

I have a 2004 Road King Classic with now 69000Ks on the clock and have just done a Oil and Filter change for the engine

I have done many and everything is always fine, but this time the oil light wont go out, any ideas of what problem I might have.

    Regards gsbeamer.

Well at least you know the oil light globe is working,,,

Could be any number of things, but if it was all working OK before the service the first place to start would be were you've been and what has changed.

Engine oil the correct viscosity ?

    Enough oil replaced ?

Oil pressure switch not earthed out ?

now it gets a bit more serious,,, probably time to acquire an oil pressure gauge to monitor pressure

Oil pressure relief valve not stuck open ?

Engine still in good enough condition to hold oil pressure ? (lets hope so)

(check by revving to see if light goes out, if light stays on there's a good chance of dickie switch or earthed oil pressure switch wire)

    Thanks Rider

I have good oil and the right amount I think it might be the oil pump because the whole thing dident sound like its old self

when I started it.... may I ask you where the oil pump is,

Could be coincidence that the pump shit itself right at the same time you serviced the old girl.

Oil pump is down (twin cam 88 if memory serves me) inside the cam chest, bottom right, behind the cam plate.

Oops! maybe the new oil was too much for her,,,

If there is in fact no oil pressure, she will sound very much different,,, all round, will pay to check before running her anymore.

    Thanks Mate for your input.

I am really thinking oil pump because she has had new ( good ) oil every 5 to 6000Ks all her life

and she dident sound the same when I started her, her top end was a bit loud, I only road her 30 meters into the shed

and turned her off. Is it easy to get to the oil pump to change it.

Once again thanks for your help with all this

Off with the side cover, cam plate and cams, oil pump is behind that, then it's straight forward and easy.

Things to check if you're going inside,

stuck pressure relief valve and or spring,, excessively worn cam chain tensioners, cracked cam plate, O-ring on the back of the pump, then of course the oil pump itself.

If the tensioners are worn out then bits from there can get into the pump and cause it to fail.

I have seen it on quite a few cars where the sender plays up after an oil change .
Sometimes i have just flushed the sender with a spray can of degreaser and it has come good.

I have also heard of people having filter issues worng filter or damaged new filters.

do as rider said external gauge first than you will know for shore , if its a single wire sender if it is earthed light should go out,
didn't just wash the bike too did you as water on the sender wire contact can play havoc too best of luck
