    Hi

I have  finally made the leap onto a HD Anniv 03 Fatboy (Blue over silver)

I have collected the Catalogues since 1991 (dont ask) and followed the bikes for years longing to one day own one and seeing the prices drop off a tad of late i thought i am going to have a crack at owning one

I have been riding in the dirt all my life and thought when i turn 50 i'll scrape up anough cash to get a Softail Custon or a Fatboy as they are the only 2 models that I REALLY like

Firts impressions are how bloody enormous these machines are and it has  has more than enough grunt for me

The footboards are quite different to the conventional peg arrangement/s that i am used to

The breaks also take a bit of getting a grip on .............how do you guys adjust from a smaller capacity bike

    A few queries

    • Are they easy to work on in relation to oil changes (gearbox / engine) as i always do that stuff myself
    • The Kevlar belt - whats teh expected lifespan of same
    • How do you keep that black wrinkle chrome / chrome so bloody clean (I mean boy can they shine)
    • Is a carbie model better or worse than EFI (pros / cons)
    • tyre pressures - what do you guys run

the world stops when i start this thing up for me (But the wifes not at all happy I'm afraid)

I cannot stop sitting on the old girl and feeling that engine rumble

On teh day i picked it up the FAther in LAw was diagnosed with Prostate cancer so that has really taken teh shine off the bike at present

We find out the prognosis on Thurs

Thanks for any replies i REALLY appreciaet your advice / support

Welcome, All good advice above. If you haven't got a bike lift , that would be a good first investment if your going to wrench on your own bike. Check out the "Product Review thread", on bike lifts. I know what you mean when you say , you cant take your eyes off her, when I bought my first Harley, i'd get a six pack , go to the shed, get a chair , and just admire her. Good luck with your father inlaws tests. Cheers.

Not being funny, but check out the forums (do a search), lots of info already on the points you raise, with lots of differing opinions.....so good luck with that!
