Harley-Davidson just released sales and financial results for the second quarter of 2014. While we don’t typically delve into the business world, there’s a fair amount worth noting:

    RETAIL HARLEY SALES

    • Dealers worldwide sold 90,218 new Harleys in the second quarter of 2014 compared to 90,193 in the year-ago quarter.
    • In the U.S., dealers sold 58,225 new Harley motorcycles in the quarter, compared to sales of 58,241 motorcycles in the year-ago period (The Motor Company believes second-quarter U.S. retail sales were adversely affected by prolonged poor weather across parts of the US and soft Sportster sales ahead of the arrival of Street motorcycles in dealer showrooms).
    • In international markets, dealers sold 31,993 new Harleys during the second quarter, compared to 31,952 motorcycles in the year-ago period, with sales up 7.0 percent in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) region and 1.5 percent in the Asia Pacific region, and down 10.4 percent in the Latin America region and 18.0 percent in Canada. “U.S. retail Harley-Davidson sales fell short of our expectations in the second quarter,” explained Harley’s Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Keith Wandell. “Because we are committed to managing supply in line with demand, we are reducing our full-year shipment plan and now expect shipment growth of approximately 3.5 to 5.5 percent over last year.” The Motor Company previously had forecast full-year shipment growth of approximately 7 to 9 percent.
    • Through the first six months of 2014, dealers sold 147,633 new Harley-Davidson motorcycles worldwide, compared to 144,447 motorcycles in the year-ago period, with retail unit sales up 1.1 percent in the U.S., 10.1 percent in the Asia Pacific region and 7.5 percent in the EMEA region, and down 2.1 percent in Latin America and 13.5 percent in Canada, compared to the year-ago period.

    SHOW ME THE MONEY

    • Second-quarter net income was $354.2 million on consolidated revenue of $2.00 billion, compared to net income of $271.7 million in the year-ago period on consolidated revenue of $1.79 billion.
    • Through six months, Harley-Davidson 2014 net income was $620.1 million on consolidated revenue of $3.73 billion, compared to six-month 2013 net income of $495.9 million on consolidated revenue of $3.37 billion.
    • Diluted earnings per share of $1.62 grew 33.9 percent on higher motorcycle shipments and continued improvement in operating efficiencies, compared to the year-ago period.
    • Six-month 2014 diluted earnings per share were $2.82, up 28.2 percent from $2.20 in the year-ago period.

i read somewhere recently the Harley accessories division is a big money earner for them too , would make sense if the bike sales are going up i.e more bikes sold the more bling sales they get. Great result for Harley it must be all the Jap riders crossing over , lol.

Yes there is a big $ in the parts/bling area for them as well. As some of you know the mark up on things like jackets compared to dealing direct with the manufacturer are considerable.

Fuck me Boxa - Let's not make this another HD MOCO kicking thread. If you don't like the company or the bikes they produce, then fuck off and ride an Aprilla!

I love my Fatboy, and I don't give a rats left nut what the MOCO does. I have no intention of selling the fucker, so I don't care what the value is or was, or will be.

Happy to see the MOCO is doing well. Means when I come to buy another one, I will have a good range to choose from.

Was no point really , was on the rags when i posted it , and just got back from a harley dealer telling me how a harley with over 20 000 klm is worth FACK ALL , , because they can pick up low mleage bikes 2-3 years old with 2-3 thousand klm cheap , and pick them up all day long ,, then went into a speil about a fully kitted oyt road king is worth close to 38 grand cos it will hold its value ,,PROVIDED YOU DON'T RIDE IT TOO MUCH .

wELL YOU GUYS CAN WISH THEM WELL , ME PERSONALY I WOULD LIKE TO SEE hARLEY CHANGE THINGS AND give someone else a chance to import them ,, break the monpoly , we the customer would benefit , , Harley would still make the same money .

Its the dealers with the monpoly i don't like , not harley they just make the things .

I only reply to legends,,these people have spent (wasted) more time on this forum than you young man, try & catch up

Allan its a shame that you feel that people have wasted their time on the forum. There are people who could save you money as well as time with great tips and advise and have plenty of Harley expertise on the site.  it is disrepectful to those people to tell them that they have wasted their time offering or contributing to the forum, shame on you!

Sure, a lot of posts are "gdays" "welcome" and a bit of off-topic discussion, But that's what I find contributes to the forum being an enjoyable and fostering environment. Otherwise it would be full of fuckwits who just leech the joy out of the community.

Sure there's 3000 gdays in a lifetime, you just say g'day to people when you walk down the street, or nod to riders when your riding. It feels good, at least I reckon it does. Anyway I'm outta this one Al, take care out there on the road, got a soft spot for the central coast, my nan lived in toowoon bay for years. Life's good champ.
