On a standard 2008 fxdc what would be the minimum size apes you could put on before you needed to start replacing cables due to length restrictions, was thinking of going to 12". Have heard that size is still legal in South Australia.

Just go the whole hog I reckon... Some 14's or 16's and then if you get caught just keep the extended cables on and put on stock bars....

I've fitted streetbob mini apes on my 2012 dyna with only a re routing of the clutch cable.   Mind you, the later dynas have mini plugs, so it's a quick swap over, no plug ends to undo. You can have the bars for $50 .They are internal wire only.

That does look good and thanks for the offer, but I think I will go 12" and Putt on some braided lines.

They won't be legal mate, the stock 10" are only legal as they came on the bike stock factory, they don't meet the regs in any other way so 12 and up sure won't.

one of the specs (there are other) is the bars can be no more than 380mm from the bottom of the handgrip to the top of the lowest point of your seat. Unless you have a very very thickly padded seat, 10 or 12" apes and higher will be much more than 380mm

even my 9" t-bars aren't legal but they look more legal than some of the apes I've had in the past and been done for so maybe I'll get left alone..... doubt it though, god forbid there are real criminals that need nabbing

    good luck

Thanks mate, put some 10" risers and drag bars on it and hated it, so uncomfortable put the stock bars back on. Standard is 6" from base of bars to top of handle. May try some cheap 10 and 12" apes and play around till I get the most comfy position
